The New York Mets<\/a> had a chance to get a rare series win against the Kansas City Royals<\/a> today, and for once they didn\u2019t squander the opportunity as the Mets got a strong start from Sean Manea to go with an offensive explosion in the fifth inning to get the 7-3 win.<\/p>\n The Royals scored first off starter Manaea<\/a>, as Lane Thomas<\/a> started the game off with a bang on a first-pitch leadoff homer. The Mets got the run back in the second as Jared Young<\/a> celebrated his birthday with an RBI double off KC starter Michael Wacha<\/a> to make it 1-1, and the score stayed that way until the fourth inning.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n Bobby Witt hit the second Royals home run off Manaea in that frame, but that 2-1 lead didn\u2019t hold up for long. The Mets broke things open in the fifth with a five-run rally that featured a home run by Tyrone Taylor<\/a>, a sacrifice fly from Bo Bichette<\/a> and RBI singles from Carson Benge and Francisco Alvarez.<\/p>\n Manaea was unexpectedly strong in this start as he gave up just two run, and he gave the mets surprising length into the seventh. The Royals got a run back in that inning, thanks in part to some sloppy Mets defense as Nick Loftin<\/a> singled and made to second on a Juan Soto<\/a> misplay in left center.<\/p>\n Jac Caglianone<\/a> drove home Loftin with a double to cut the Mets\u2019 lead to 6-3, but Manaea managed to get out of the inning without any further damage. Manaea\u2019s final line had him given up three runs, two earned, to go with six hits, a walk and a strikeout.<\/p>\n Soto quickly made up for the error in the bottom of the inning with yet another monster homer to right, which made it 7-3.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n It\u2019s been nearly a year since Manaea got a win as a Mets starter, and Huascar Brazoban pitched a scoreless eighth to make sure it happened.
