This is a super rare sports car that used to be very popular in the UK but practically unknown everywhere else.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, the Royal Family used to love this vehicle as well.<\/p>\n

But the most fascinating thing was that the car was in surprisingly good shape, considering where it was found.<\/p>\n

How this couple ended up finding this rare sports car <\/h2>\n

Elton and Claire, the couple behind the UK Barn Finds<\/a> YouTube channel, were scouring a field in search of classic vehicles and their mission was definitely accomplished.<\/p>\n

This particular car would have otherwise gone unnoticed, thanks to the hedge that had built up around it.<\/p>\n

A monstrous amalgamation of leaves, branches, and foliage \u2013 around the size of a large truck \u2013 was hiding a Reliant Scimitar GTE<\/a>, which stands for Grand Touring Estate.<\/p>\n

Originally unveiled in 1968, the remained in production for about 20 years, and it was pretty fast for the standards of the time: 0-60 was dealt with in 10.7 seconds.<\/p>\n

The Scimitar was one of the Royal Family\u2019s favorite cars<\/h2>\n

Maybe it\u2019s because it was British or maybe it\u2019s because it looked pretty good, but, whichever, this car was a big hit with the British Royal Family.<\/p>\n

Princess Anne received one for her 20th birthday in 1970, gifted by both of her parents.<\/p>\n

Apparently, she\u2019d go on to own eight more GTEs, and even her brother, King Charles<\/a>, got one of his own.<\/p>\n

The Scimitar started out as a coupe, but the styling evolved over the years.<\/p>\n

The first-generation Scimitar looked like a muscle car, more or less, while the following generations were two-door shooting brakes.<\/p>\n

The styling changed again with the fourth (and final) generation, which was only sold as a two-door convertible.<\/p>\n

Most of the engines were made by Ford \u2013 including a couple of V6s and a V8.<\/p>\n

The MSRP when it was new was north of \u00a32,000, which was quite expensive at the time.<\/p>\n

It was basically the price of a small house.<\/p>\n

Today, you can find usable, running projects for around $5,000 to $9,000, while immaculate, well-restored examples usually fetch between $15,000 and $25,000.<\/p>\n
