All this smoke led both Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) of the House Judiciary Committee and Sen. Dick Durbin of the Senate Judiciary Committee to announce <\/span>Thursday that they would launch an investigation into <\/a>Patel\u2019s use of public resources<\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The two Democrats noted that Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) sent Patel a letter in May where he \u201craised serious concerns\u201d about the FBI director\u2019s \u201cuse of government aircraft, his purchase of a fleet of luxury BMW vehicles, and whether he has reimbursed taxpayers for personal travel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Patel didn\u2019t comment on the investigation, but a senior agency official told NewsNation that the accusations in Grassley\u2019s letter<\/span> \u201care completely false.\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

However, Patel did respond via his personal X account to an MS NOW article posted Friday titled<\/span> \u201cKash Patel Can\u2019t Count On Trump\u2019s Protection Forever\u201d<\/span><\/a> where editor Hayes Brown gently explains that it \u201cwould be a mistake\u201d for the FBI head to \u201cassume that the umbra of invincibility that covers the president reaches the FBI director as well.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Trump has proved time and again that no amount of previous loyalty can make him stick his own neck out to protect his inner circle.<\/span><\/p>\n

If Patel tries to test this for himself, he runs the risk of becoming a lightning rod, drawing down the wrath of every frustrated Republican who knows it\u2019s much easier to savage the people around Trump than aiming at the president himself.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

Patel might have assumed \u2015 or hope \u2015 that his comment would at least own those danged libs, but the response suggested that the MS NOW critique was possibly on point. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
