Call me later.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Comedian Eric Neumann is known for calling his mother, Paula, on speakerphone during his shows. <span class=\"credit\">Olga Ginzburg for the N.Y. Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Neumann then began calling his mother on stage at his shows  \u2014 putting her on speakerphone during the last 10 minutes of his set \u2014 and sometimes that would be the only part of his entire act audiences would remark on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019d be like, \u2018Oh my God, That mom phone call!\u2019 And I\u2019d be like, \u2018Well, what about me as a solo artist for 45 minutes before that?&#8217;\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Neumann, who started in comedy while he was a student at Hunter College, said his mom is a good sport. \u201cShe\u2019s very secure, totally fine being the butt of the joke and so am I, that\u2019s where I got that from,\u201d he said. <span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of Eric Neumann<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Before long, she became an integral part of his comedy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mom gets very, very nervous when I fly, when I travel. So I\u2019d be like, \u2018My mom\u2019s probably worried about me. Let me call her,&#8217;\u201d explained Neumann, whose comedy special-documentary, \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reels\/DQMvXUvESU0\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Call Your Mom<\/a>,\u201d\u00a0premieres on The Roku Channel on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd admittedly I\u2019d probably come to the point of the set where I go, \u2018Ah, man, what should I do next?\u2019 So I\u2019d call my mom and put her on speaker and she would be, \u2018Where are you?\u2019 or \u2018How\u2019s the hotel?&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The mom of two, 77, who was born in the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/28\/sports\/stans-sports-bar-across-from-yankee-stadium-responsible-for-many-marriages\/\">Bronx<\/a> and grew up on Long Island, insists it\u2019s not an act for her \u2014 she needs to hear from her oldest son, especially when he\u2019s on the road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s true, I have been a little bit of an overprotective mother all these years, and follow him around, not physically, but phone wise. Thank God for the cell phone,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cI don\u2019t remember him being funny \u2026 I don\u2019t remember any of this comedy growing up at all,\u201d Paula told The Post. <span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of Eric Neumann<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>During their tag-team act, she gives her perspective on everything from family to dating.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just naturally a smart ass. So like I try to put her in social situations over the phone that she has to kind of crawl out of,\u201d said Neumann, a regular at the Comedy Cellar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d be like, \u2018Mom, there\u2019s a couple in the audience whose been together 10 years, but they\u2019re not married.\u2019 And her old-school brain cannot comprehend any of that. So she\u2019d be like, \u2018Oh my God, get a move on it, guys!&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since Neumann is still single, his <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/07\/13\/lifestyle\/how-owning-manhattan-star-chloe-tucker-caines-mom-catfished-her-future-hubby\/\">mom has also tried<\/a> to help him find a wife \u2014 in the audience.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Paula is hoping to find Eric a wife, possibly in the audience of one of his shows. <span class=\"credit\">Olga Ginzburg for the N.Y. Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWell, you know, it\u2019s a known thing, he\u2019s 39, I want him to\u00a0get married already, settle down.
