Starting<br \/>\n                        at noon, the parade will begin at Sedillo Park and end at the Plaza, followed by music,<br \/>\n                        waterslides, food and drink vendors at the Socorro Rodeo and Sports Complex from 1<br \/>\n                        to 6 p.m.\u00a0 Local and New Mexico bands begin at 1 p.m. and conclude at dark with fireworks<br \/>\n                        provided by New Mexico Tech\u2019s Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC).<br \/>\n                        The Socorro 4<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of July Celebration is a collaborative event presented by the City of Socorro and<br \/>\n                        New Mexico Tech.\u00a0 Admission to the event is free and free parking is available.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can tailgate and bring your own grill at your vehicle, or picnic on the soccer<br \/>\n                        field, but no grills or tent stakes are allowed on the soccer field. RV camping is<br \/>\n                        available, to reserve your spot visit socorronm.gov. There is still room for vendors:<br \/>\n                        for-profit ($100), nonprofit ($50). Email <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nmt.edu\/news\/2026\/mailto:ccortez@socorronm.gov\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ccortez@socorronm.gov<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for more information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There will be a Cornhole Tournament in the morning, organized by the Socorro Cornhole<br \/>\n                        Club \u201cSugar Shackers.\u201d\u00a0 Cost is $50 a team and a blind draw at $25 a player.\u00a0 This<br \/>\n                        is a newly organized annual tournament commemorating Dustin Armijo, with some funds<br \/>\n                        being donated to a charity.\u00a0 More info will be coming on the club\u2019s Facebook page<br \/>\n                        and the Visit Socorro Facebook Page.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dana Chavez, director of the New Mexico Tech Performing Arts Series, says this year\u2019s<br \/>\n                        event will have some new faces on stage, as well as our hometown favorites and she<br \/>\n                        encourages Socorro-area residents to come out and celebrate the holiday with us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDon&#8217;t forget to bring your own chairs, blankets, tarps, sunscreen, dancing shoes,<br \/>\n                        good cheer and great mood,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year\u2019s headliner performance comes from <\/span><b>Sorela<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 5:30-7p.m., two sisters backed by a powerhouse band, performing NM Spanish, country<br \/>\n                        and rock, with an unmatched combination of beauty and talent.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">D\u2019ette and D\u2019anna have been singing and entertaining for most of their lives. They<br \/>\n                        currently perform throughout the region as Sorela (NM Spanish and variety), Animated<br \/>\n                        Jukebox (Top 40, country, rock, R&amp;B and NM Spanish) and Plain Jane (country). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Born in Albuquerque, Sorela\u2019s early years were spent in the entertainment capital<br \/>\n                        of the world Las Vegas, Nevada. But it was in New Mexico where Sorela got their start,<br \/>\n                        winning a church talent contest. After recording \u201cSi Quieres Verme Llorar\u201d and \u201cEstes<br \/>\n                        Tu\u201d under the name D\u2019Girlz, they became Sorela in 2004, meaning \u201csister,\u201d a name they<br \/>\n                        felt suited their style and Spanish-Italian heritage. They went on to perform and<br \/>\n                        record traditional Spanish Mexican songs in ranchera, cumbia and ballad styles. They<br \/>\n                        have received numerous awards from the NM Entertainment Association and National\u00a0<br \/>\n                        Hispano Music Association, including Song of The Year for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La Novia de Pajarillo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Vocal Duo of The Year, Latin\/Pop Song of The Year, Producer of The Year for the<br \/>\n                        self-titled album Sorela, Song of the Year for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Te Amo Tanto<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which received mass regional air play, and Female Entertainers of the Year for three<br \/>\n                        years running. They performed on Garrison Keillor\u2019s Prairie Home Companion radio show<br \/>\n                        which launched a national demand for their recordings and live performance. Sorela<br \/>\n                        was selected twice as one of the top 15 New Mexico artists (Quince Grandes) by the<br \/>\n                        Latin Music Academy of New Mexico. This award was given along with Sparx, Lorenzo<br \/>\n                        Antonio, Al Hurricane Sr. &amp; Jr., Gonzalo, El Gringo and other top NM artists.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to the headliner show, a variety of bands and artists will perform throughout<br \/>\n                        the day:<\/span><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wysiwyg-image wysiwyg-image--right\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nmt.edu\/news\/2026\/img\/2-nmtpas_June-July-2026-events.jpg\" alt=\"4th of July events\" width=\"1000\" height=\"853\"\/><figcaption>\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The celebration kicks off at 1 p.m. with the <\/span><b>Socorro Community Band<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> led by Dr. Eileen Comstock. The cherished ensemble brings together musicians of all<br \/>\n                           ages and backgrounds. Dedicated to fostering a love for music and promoting community<br \/>\n                           spirit, the band performs a wide range of repertoire, from classical pieces and patriotic<br \/>\n                           tunes to contemporary arrangements and festive holiday music. This year there will<br \/>\n                           also be some special singers, the newly formed Socorro Youth Choir.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At 2:15 p.m. western singer and entertainer <\/span><b>Doug Figgs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> presents \u201cCowboy country.\u201d Known for his soothing voice, warm personality and exceptional<br \/>\n                           songwriting, Figgs delivers a true taste of the West and well represents the rising<br \/>\n                           talent in western music.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At 3:30 p.m. <\/span><b>Fuzzy Logic <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">plays a fun variety of pop, oldies rock, \u201890s and contemporary vibes. With powerful<br \/>\n                           vocals and well-known covers, their engaging stage presence and dynamic sound make<br \/>\n                           them a standout act.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At 4:35 p.m. the <\/span><b>Et Alia Belly Dancers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, led by Socorroan teacher and choreographer Julie Johnson, will perform several styles<br \/>\n                           of this ancient dance form from regions of the Middle East, including classical, modern<br \/>\n                           pop and folkloric with beautiful outfits and amazing grace and agility.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The final group of the evening will perform at 7:30 p.m. <\/span><b>Big River Band<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, playing country, Spanish and variety dance music. The group is led by young rising<br \/>\n                           star, singer-guitarist Moises Castillo, barely 21 years old, who grew up in Socorro.<br \/>\n                           The band is newly organized with some new musicians and former members of Suavecito,<br \/>\n                           with Karl Lukesh on guitar, George Murillo on bass, Danny Jojola on keyboard and Jimmy<br \/>\n                           Trujillo on drums. They are quickly becoming one of Socorro\u2019s most popular bands,<br \/>\n                           touring throughout New Mexico, with Mo\u2019s rich voice and charismatic style on classic<br \/>\n                           and contemporary country, mixed with favorite rock and Spanish tunes.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The day concludes with a <\/span><b>spectacular fireworks display<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from EMRTC, starting at 9:15 p.m.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attendees are asked to keep personal fireworks and pets at home. Alcohol also is not<br \/>\n                        allowed.
