Authorities have determined a preliminary cause of death for former Senator Lindsey Graham<\/b>, according to a new statement released from the late politician\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

As reported by the Associated Press<\/em><\/a> and various other outlets on Sunday, July 12, Graham died \u201cof aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.\u201d An aortic dissection is also referred to as an aorta rupture, per the Mayo Clinic,<\/a> which can occur when arteries harden over time.<\/p>\n

News broke on July 11 <\/a><\/span>that Graham, the longtime senator representing South Carolina, had died unexpectedly. He was 71.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn the evening of Saturday, July 11, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham passed away from a brief and sudden illness,\u201d a rep for the politician wrote in a statement. \u201cSenator Graham\u2019s family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier that night, emergency services had reportedly responded to a call for \u201ccardiac arrest\u201d at Graham\u2019s Washington, D.C. residence, according to NBC News<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Graham died one day before he was scheduled to make his 64th appearance on NBC\u2019s Meet the Press<\/i>.<\/p>\n

In light of Graham\u2019s death, President Donald Trump <\/b>and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu <\/b>joined the broadcast to \u201creflect on [the late politician\u2019s] life and legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n
