Celebrities are mourning the loss of Jurassic Park<\/em><\/a> and Peaky Blinders<\/em><\/a> star Sam Neill<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Neill\u2019s family announced on Monday, July 13, that he died unexpectedly at age 78<\/a>. They promised \u201cmore details will be shared later,\u201d asking for privacy as they navigate the loss.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with immense sadness that the wh\u0101nau of Sam Neill share the news of his passing on Monday 13th July, in Sydney Australia,\u201d the statement read, using the M\u0101ori word for family. \u201cSam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterized his whole life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement added, \u201cThe loss was sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer free. They would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at St Vincent\u2019s Private Hospital for their incredible care.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the end of the month, comedy acting icon Catherine O\u2019Hara died at age 71. In February, Dawson\u2019s Creek actor James Van Der Beek died at age [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Neill announced in his 2023 memoir that he had been diagnosed with stage III angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma. He was put on an anti-cancer drug after chemotherapy failed and eventually went into remission<\/a>. However, doctors told Neill that the drug would stop working at some point in his life.<\/p>\n

Aside from his iconic role as Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park<\/em> films, Neill was known for playing Chief Inspector Chester Campbell in the first two seasons of Peaky Blinders<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The statement added, \u201cSam was one of the key forces that got Peaky Blinders<\/em> off to a running start, for which we will be forever grateful. Our love and thoughts are with his family.\u201d<\/p>\n
