Cage The Elephant<\/a> have kicked off a \u201cnew chapter\u201d with the release of \u2018Beaches in Tennessee\u2019, their first new music in two years \u2013 check it out below.<\/p>\n Built around Brad Shultz\u2019s guitar, the central plea of the new track sees his brother Matt sing: \u201cSomebody take me home\/ I\u2019m not the enemy\/ I\u2019m going back to those beaches in Tennessee<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n Talking about the creation of the song, Matt said it was a fictionalised account of a mental health crisis he suffered in previous years<\/a>, something he previously told NME<\/em> was \u201cextremely traumatic\u201d. Shultz had been detained in a hotel in 2023<\/a>\u00a0for carrying firearms which were only licensed in Kentucky and Tennessee. The arrest,\u00a0a court found<\/a>, was the result of\u00a0psychotic delusions which Shultz had been suffering<\/a>\u00a0from as a side-effect of medication he\u2019d been prescribed.<\/p>\n \u201cThis song for me symbolises me finally being able to move past it,\u201d he explained.\u00a0\u201cIt was my attempt at reclaiming the ability to write about something serious that happened in my life, from a place of genuine experience. Having gone through what I did, I\u2019m grateful to have the perspective that I have now. The experience gave me a greater appreciation for my life when I came out on the other side.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m thankful for where I\u2019m at now in this new chapter. As a band, we were able to reclaim the ability to write a song rooted in a difficult and turbulent real-life event, but do it in a lighthearted way. I hope it helps someone else the way it helped me.\u201d<\/p>\n
