Netflix is rolling the dice on a scaled-up version of the classic board game Monopoly.<\/p>\n
The streamer has greenlit a competition series, also called Monopoly<\/em>, that’s set to premiere in 2027. The show will take place on a scaled-up version of the game board and will feature 12 players competing for a $2 million prize. Studio Lambert (The Traitors, Squid Game: The Challenge) is producing the series in association with Hasbro Entertainment.<\/p>\n More from The Hollywood Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n Here’s how Netflix describes Monopoly<\/em>: “On a life-sized, fully realized Monopoly Town Square, 12 players will enter on equal footing. But equality won’t last long. One by one, bankrupt players are eliminated\u2014until a single winner is left standing to take it all.”<\/p>\n Monopoly has been around for more than 90 years (and was inspired by games that date to the early 1900s) and has basically always been popular. Monopoly Go!, a mobile-phone version of the game, has tens of millions of downloads since it launched in 2023. The board game has also been the basis for a couple of relatively short-lived TV game shows, in 1990 and 2015.<\/p>\n Monopoly<\/em> is executive produced by Gabriel Marano and Zachary Edwin of Hasbro Entertainment and Studio Lambert’s Nia Yemoh, Tim Harcourt, Jack Burgess, Stephen Lambert and Kim Murphy.
