Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass <\/em>is in theaters July 10<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nKen Marino<\/a> was impressed with how quickly Jennifer Aniston<\/a> agreed to make a cameo in his new comedy.<\/p>\nMarino, 57, opened up to PEOPLE about the hilarious celebrity cameos that feature in his new movie Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass<\/em><\/a>at the comedy\u2019s Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday, June 23. Gail Daughtry<\/em> sees Zoey Deutch<\/a> portray a Midwestern bride-to-be who travels to Hollywood to seduce Jon Hamm<\/a> \u2014 playing a heightened version of himself \u2014 after her fianc\u00e9 cashes in his own celebrity \u201chall pass\u201d before their wedding. Hamm\u2019s Mad Men<\/em> costar John Slattery<\/a> also plays himself in the movie, on top of a host of other celebrity cameos.<\/p>\nMarino says that casting Hamm, 55, and Slattery, 63, was pretty simple, given that the men have all worked together before. Recruiting Aniston, whom Marino has known for years, too, was \u201cpretty much the same,\u201d he says. \u201cWe\u2019re all old friends now and you call up and you say, \u2018Well, it would be great if we can get somebody like Jennifer Aniston.\u2019 And then we went, \u2018Well, let\u2019s ask Jennifer.\u2019 And then of course we were expecting she\u2019s busy, she\u2019s doing something, but she\u2019s so cool that she was like, \u2018Yeah, when do you want to do it?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd she\u2019s done that before with us,\u201d Marino adds. \u201cI did a thing called Burning Love<\/em> a long time ago and she came and did one day on that and it was so funny and wonderful, and such a trooper and a team player. Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass<\/em>\u2018s cast includes Sabrina Impacciatore, Joe Lo Truglio, Ben Wang, Miles Gutierrez-Riley and more, excluding the cameos in which several celebrities portray themselves. Marino, who cowrote the comedy with longtime collaborator David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer<\/em>), even plays a former PEOPLE photographer who plays a key role in tracking down Hamm\u2019s whereabouts in L.A.<\/p>\n\u201cWe didn\u2019t have time to take too many big swings,\u201d Marino says of their stunt casting efforts. \u201cI mean, when you\u2019re lucky enough to have been working in this town for this long for over three decades, almost four decades, you know people who are different levels of hot shots, and so we reached out to the people we wanted to be in the movie and they all said yes. So it was nice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hamm previously appeared in Wain\u2019s 2007 comedy The Ten<\/em>, while both he and Slattery starred in the 2015 Netflix prequel series Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp<\/em>, which debuted as Mad Men <\/em>was coming to an end that same year. Aniston costarred in Marino and Wain\u2019s 2012 movie Wanderlust<\/em> with Paul Rudd<\/a>. As Marino says, he and Hamm have known each other since they were both trying to break into Hollywood in the 1990s.<\/p>\n\u201cWe would be sitting in many, many rooms together, and so we became friends a long time ago when we were young men and David and John and I all played poker together,\u201d he recalls. \u201cSo, when we wrote the script, we wrote it and we got to now see if Jon would do it. And so he read it and he said, \u2018Absolutely. Let me send it to Slattery.\u2019 And then Slattery said, \u2018This is ridiculous. I\u2019ll do it.\u2019 \u201c<\/p>\n
