Josh Grisetti, the Broadway actor who charmed audiences with roles in \u201cSomething Rotten!\u201d and TV\u2019s \u201cThe Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,\u201d has died, a family member confirmed to The Times on Monday. He was 44.<\/p>\n
Grisetti died by suicide Friday, his \u201cSomething Rotten!\u201d co-star Rob McClure first announced Sunday on Instagram<\/a>, adding he is heartbroken and \u201cnot ready to even attempt to understand.\u201d McClure also expressed his condolences to Grisetti\u2019s wife and family. The Instagram post included photos of Grisetti and McClure over the years, including at Grisetti\u2019s wedding. The actor married<\/a> Mackenzie Perpich in 2020. <\/p>\n \u201cCommunities around the world will never be the same without him. We love you Josh,\u201d McClure wrote in his caption. \u201cJust a cataclysmic loss.\u201d<\/p>\n On Broadway, Grisetti was best known for starring as Bottom brother Nigel alongside McClure\u2019s Nick. The play follows the pair of brothers as they strive for success in the theatrical world amid William Shakespeare\u2019s unstoppable rise. Grisetti portrayed Nigel Bottom from 2017 to 2018 for the show\u2019s national tour. Grisetti also starred in musical comedies \u201cIt Shoulda Been You\u201d and \u201cBroadway Bound.\u201d He appeared in award-winning off-Broadway productions including \u201cRent,\u201d \u201cPeter and the Starcatcher\u201d and \u201cEnter Laughing,\u201d among others. <\/p>\n Grisetti\u2019s regional credits also include \u201cSpamalot\u201d in Las Vegas, \u201cHow to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying\u201d at the Reprise Theatre, \u201cBeauty & the Beast\u201d and \u201cPeter Pan Goes Wrong\u201d in La Mirada. <\/p>\n \u201cThank you, Josh, for sharing your beautiful energy and immense talent with us,\u201d the La Mirada Theatre said on Instagram<\/a>. <\/p>\n The actor, in what would be his final Instagram post<\/a>, announced he departed a production of \u201cLegally Blonde\u201d at the Trentino Music Festival for \u201cpersonal reasons\u201d before the show\u2019s opening. <\/p>\n The festival also mourned<\/a> Grisetti in an Instagram post Monday: \u201cJosh was a loving and caring person who was deeply dedicated to his friends, his students, and his colleagues. He was beloved by all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by our students, faculty, and staff.\u201d<\/p>\n Grisetti, born in December 1981 in Roanoke, Va., acted throughout childhood and performed in a variety of productions, including a kindergarten production of \u201cPeter Rabbit\u201d and high school productions of \u201cAnything Goes\u201d and \u201cFlowers for Algernon.\u201d He officially earned his Actors\u2019 Equity card in 2004 for a production of \u201cWhere\u2019s Charley?\u201d at the Goodspeed Opera House, he told Playbill in 2009.<\/a> <\/p>\n He also pursued a career in TV and film, most notably appearing in the Emmy-winning series \u201cThe Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.\u201d He appeared as comedy writer Ralph Emerson in the series\u2019 fifth season. He also had roles in shows \u201cThe Knights of Prosperity,\u201d \u201cNurse Jackie\u201d and \u201cThe Good Fight.\u201d <\/p>\n He appeared in the film adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri\u2019s \u201cThe Namesake,\u201d \u201cThe Immigrant,\u201d \u201cThe Revolutionary Road\u201d and \u201cMen in Black 3,\u201d among other movies, according to IMDb. <\/p>\n Grisetti, who also directed various musical productions, notably brought his talent and experience to Cal State Fullerton and Loyola Marymount University, teaching acting, musical theater and business. He also authored \u201cGod in My Head\u201d in 2016, an \u201cirreverent spiritual memoir\u201d that details his accidental meeting with God through a \u201challucinogenic journey.\u201d<\/p>\n During his time on \u201cPrice of Broadway\u201d in 2015, Grisetti reflected on luck and breaking into the industry. \u201cLuck is required to kind of spark some things in this business a lot of the time, but then talent is what keeps you there,\u201d he told Playbill<\/a>. <\/p>\n \u201cYou start making your own luck, you start forging your own connections and making it happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
