Born John Lewis Gilbert III on July 13, 1928, Gilbert worked in the Army Special Services, sang and danced in musicals, hosted the game show Music Bingo<\/em>, and even anchored his own regional talk show before getting the call to join the Jeopardy <\/em>team.<\/p>\n The series premiered in daytime on NBC in 1964, where it ran through 1975. After an initial revival concluded a one-year run in 1979, Jeopardy <\/em>was picked up in syndication in 1984 with Trebek as host and Gilbert as announcer.
