Tom Cruise unveiled details about his new movie Digger<\/em> at a trailer reveal event on the Warner Bros. lot in Los Angeles on July 9<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n The trailer debuted on July 13, starring Cruise as a quirky oil magnate<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n The Alejandro G. I\u00f1\u00e1rritu-directed comedy is in theaters Oct. 2<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Tom Cruise<\/a> looks unlike fans have ever seen him before in his new movie Digger<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n Warner Bros. revealed the trailer on July 13, starring Cruise, 64, as an unruly oil magnate on a mission to prove he is humanity\u2019s hero \u201cbefore the disaster he\u2019s unleashed destroys everything,\u201d per the logline.<\/p>\n The trailer opens with Digger concerned over his cat\u2019s health and yelling at his employee for wanting to shut down a project his company has been working on. It turns out that the project could lead to a costly ($18 trillion, to be exact) disaster, putting Digger in a new role: humanity\u2019s savior.<\/p>\n Cruise previously unveiled the trailer for the Alejandro G. I\u00f1\u00e1rritu<\/a>-directed comedy (in theaters Oct. 2) at a Thursday, July 9 Q&A event in Los Angeles, speaking about his dramatic onscreen transformation in his first movie in years outside of the Top Gun<\/em> or Mission: Impossible<\/em> franchises.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI have never had something that could challenge me in this way and neither has Alejandro when we went in, ever. And when you see this film, it\u2019s totally original,\u201d said Cruise.<\/p>\n Little was previously known about Digger<\/em>, with a teaser<\/a> released last December only showing a silhouetted Cruise dancing with a shovel in his hands and standing on top of a fence at what appeared to be a boardwalk. A follow-up trailer included a montage of footage from the superstar\u2019s previous blockbusters.\u00a0<\/p>\n The newly unveiled footage, introduced at the sneak peek by I\u00f1\u00e1rritu, 62, shows an almost unrecognizable Cruise as his character Digger Rockwell. Costarring are Jesse Plemons<\/a>, Sandra H\u00fcller<\/a>, Riz Ahmed<\/a>, Sophie Wilde, Emma D\u2019Arcy<\/a>, Michael Stuhlbarg and John Goodman<\/a>.<\/p>\n DIGGER PosterCredit: Warner Bros.
