Called \u2018Turn It Up: Our Plan for Music\u2019, the UK government announced a new funding initiative to work on the growth of music programmes for youth across England.<\/p>\n According to recent reports by Sky News, the government\u2019s latest \u2018Music In Libraries\u2019 initiative will be designed alongside with the Irish singer\u2019s foundation named after the singer. Teachers, youth clubs and industry experts will all come together to provide insight on developing the program, as confirmed from the statements made by Department for Culture, Media and Sport.Reportedly, around GBP 12.5 million has been allotted for this upcoming project. The main aim of the upcoming project has been set to ensure that youths from across England are able to have access to mentorship and education everywhere, for free. Further on, around 150 library authorities can get access to funding in order to create studios, recording booths, mixing desks, and acquire all kinds of equipment needed to set the space up for children.The overall funding for the programs will come from the Dormant Assets Scheme. This scheme was set by the government to reuse unclaimed financial resources and assets and allocate them to initiatives such as this one. Culture secretary Lisa Nandy also stated the same and shared, “Talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. After a decade of mindless vandalism that stripped culture and creativity from too many classrooms and communities, we are putting music back at the heart of education, investing in creative careers and backing grassroots music across the country.” She also added that \u201cbelongs to everyone, not just the privileged few.\u201dThis initiative has been in development since 2024, after the \u2018Shape of You\u2019 singer and the cultural secretary visited a non-profit organisation that worked as a live music and youth arts organisation for young minds.Last year, Sheeran, along with Harry Styles and Stormzy, had penned an open letter to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in March.
