{"id":2501673,"date":"2026-07-14T15:06:11","date_gmt":"2026-07-14T15:06:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2501673"},"modified":"2026-07-14T15:06:11","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T15:06:11","slug":"a-next-generation-studio-for-youtube-creators","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/a-next-generation-studio-for-youtube-creators\/","title":{"rendered":"A &#8216;next generation studio&#8217; for YouTube creators"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-element=\"story-body\" data-subscriber-content=\"\">\n<p>Hollywood\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2026-07-08\/traditional-hollywood-is-investing-big-in-internet-stories-heres-why\">fascination with YouTube creators <\/a> is going to the next level.<\/p>\n<p>Los Angeles-based investment firm Content Partners and media entrepreneur Ed Simpson announced Tuesday that they are launching a new company, Wonderloom Media, that will acquire YouTube-creator led businesses. <\/p>\n<p>Wonderloom\u2019s first acquisition is YouTube true-crime channel Dr. Insanity, which has more than 5 million subscribers and more than 1.3 billion total views.<\/p>\n<p>Content Partners owns or licenses more than 800 films and more than 3,000 hours of television content. The company co-owns the \u201cCSI\u201d franchise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a kind of next step evolution in the type of IP we will be acquiring,\u201d Alphonse Lordo, a partner at Content Partners, said in an interview. <\/p>\n<p>The effort comes as the film industry continues to struggle to bring more people into movie theaters and has had recent success with the YouTube creator-led films \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2026-06-20\/how-low-budget-movies-are-beating-hollywoods-most-expensive-bets\">Obsession<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/movies\/story\/2026-05-28\/backrooms-review-kane-parsons-chiwetel-ejiofor-renate-reinsve\">Backrooms<\/a>.\u201d  As studios and TV networks have shed jobs over the years, more entertainment workers are applying their expertise at <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2025-07-12\/creator-economy-jobs-a-bright-spot-in-a-tough-hollywood-job-market\">major YouTube creator-led businesses<\/a>, which have continued to grow their audiences. <\/p>\n<p>YouTube\u2019s audience has <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2025-04-23\/two-decades-ago-youtube-uploaded-its-first-video-now-its-a-tv-juggernaut\">shifted from smartphones to TVs<\/a>, on which many U.S. consumers watch YouTube videos with their families. That in turn has attracted streamers such as Netflix to partner with YouTube creators to bring their content to the same platform that has high-budget television shows and movies. <\/p>\n<p>Simpson, a former TV producer who will be Wonderloom\u2019s chief executive, said Dr. Insanity was the \u201cperfect first acquisition\u201d because it had a loyal audience, proven storytelling and meaningful room to expand. \u201cTrue crime is an incredibly sticky genre of programming that works just as well as it does on YouTube, as it does on Netflix and linear and cable channels,\u201d he said in an interview. <\/p>\n<p>Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. <\/p>\n<p>Wonderloom, based in L.A., also will assist entrepreneurs who started YouTube channels grow their businesses.<\/p>\n<p>The new company also is eyeing  possible acquisitions in food, travel and general entertainment programming, added Simpson, a former chief strategy officer at Wheelhouse, a production firm behind \u201cAmerica\u2019s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is about building the next generation studio, so we think of this as the beginnings of Paramount, of Warner Bros., of those great studios,\u201d Simpson said. \u201cWe see this space following in that very same pattern right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other Hollywood companies also are getting into the creator business acquisition space.
