Former \u201cThe Ring\u201d and \u201cLilo & Stitch\u201d child star Daveigh Chase, who died while homeless in June after years of battling drug addiction, leaves an estate worth nearly half a million dollars. <\/p>\n
Probate documents filed July 8 in Los Angeles County Superior Court say Chase \u2014 legal name Daveigh Elizabeth Schwallier \u2014 left behind about $400,000 in personal property. The late actor\u2019s mother, Cathy Chase, submitted the documents and filed a petition to become the administrator of her daughter\u2019s estate. <\/p>\n
The court filings also note that Daveigh Chase died without a will, is only survived by her parents, and confirm that she was homeless at the time of her death. The last known address for Chase appears to be a home in Chatsworth. <\/p>\n
Chase died June 16 in a hospital at age 35. In initial reports, her father, John David Schwallier, and her boyfriend said the actor died of complications from bacterial meningitis and a blood infection. But the medical examiner\u2019s report disclosed that <\/a>Chase died of AIDS, which is caused by HIV, as the primary cause of death. The report also listed chronic polysubstance use \u2014 using more than one drug or substance at the same time or within a short period \u2014 as a \u201csignificant condition.\u201d<\/p>\n Chase started her acting career in the late 1990s with minor roles in popular TV series, including \u201cSabrina the Teenage Witch,\u201d \u201cCharmed\u201d and \u201cER,\u201d and starred in multiple beloved movies at the turn of the century. In 2001 cult classic \u201cDonnie Darko,\u201d she was Samantha, the younger sister of Jake Gyllenhaal\u2019s troubled Donnie Darko. She would reprise the role eight years later for the sequel, \u201cS. Darko: A Donnie Darko Tale.\u201d<\/p>\n In the same year as \u201cDonnie Darko,\u201d Chase lent her voice to the American dub of Hayao Miyazaki\u2019s tender \u201cSpirited Away,\u201d voicing its protagonist Chihiro. The film won the animated feature prize at the 2003 Academy Awards.<\/p>\n Chase was known for her versatility, demonstrated by her roles in \u201cLilo & Stitch\u201d and \u201cThe Ring\u201d in the same year. In the latter, she played ghost girl Samara Morgan. <\/p>\n
