To celebrate 25 years of her career in the music industry, and debut album <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/qa-michelle-branch-187975\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/qa-michelle-branch-187975\/\">The Spirit Room<\/a>,<\/em> the singer-songwriter has announced <em>Everywhere and Back Again<\/em>, an EP of some of her biggest hits that have been reimagined by other artists. The full project will be out on Nov. 6 via BMG, marking the first release under Branch\u2019s new label home. But a new version of the 2002 hit \u201cThe Game of Love\u201d featuring <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/new-radicals\/\" id=\"auto-tag_new-radicals\" data-tag=\"new-radicals\">New Radicals<\/a>\u2019 Gregg Alexander is out now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve been in a very creative time in my life,\u201d Branch tells <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> over the phone. In addition to the EP, the musician will hit the road in the fall for an 18-date trek through the U.S. She\u2019s also putting on a special, nostalgia-packed performance at the Sun Rose that\u2019s meant to recall her <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_Kgk5_DahUY\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">first <em>TRL<\/em> appearance<\/a> for a few lucky Los Angeles fans on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIt\u2019s a few days before she is set to share the exciting news, and Branch takes the call from her house in Charleston, South Carolina. Despite the busy slate of things ahead of her, she is basking in what she calls \u201cfull summer porch vibes,\u201d sitting in a swimsuit and gazing at the palm trees as she details her next chapter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cThis whole anniversary project has really been a way to get everybody hyped up,\u201d she says. So far, it has worked. When Branch wiped her <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DZ54g17iava\/?img_index=1\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DZ54g17iava\/?img_index=1\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram<\/a> profile and began posting cryptic photos using lyrics from <em>The Spirit Room<\/em>, everyone freaked out. Before it was released on Santana\u2019s <em>Shaman<\/em> album and became a Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hit that went on to win a Grammy for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals, the song was one\u00a0 of many that Alexander wrote after New Radicals disbanded. \u201cIt was such an atypical pop song that it had been passed on by several artists,\u201d he says. But that all changed when Clive Davis came into the picture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAt the time, Davis was producing Santana\u2019s highly anticipated follow-up to \u201cSmooth,\u201d and he convinced Carlos Santana to record Alexander\u2019s \u201cThe Game of Love\u201d as the album\u2019s lead single. \u201c[Davis] wanted me to sing it, but I\u2019d just recently ended New Radicals so I passed on that,\u201d Alexander says. So the pair enlisted legendary singers like Tina Turner and Macy Gray to lay down takes, but Davis was after a different, newer sound. That\u2019s when Alexander suggested Branch, who had been touring with members of New Radicals and covering the group\u2019s hit \u201cYou Only Get What You Give.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cWord got back to Gregg that I was covering it and that I admired him greatly,\u201d Branch says. \u201cIt was my understanding that, for whatever reason, Clive hadn\u2019t found whatever he was looking for \u2026 and Gregg put my name in the hat.\u201d She still remembers her teenage excitement. \u201cI was like, \u2018Wow, that\u2019s fucking cool. That\u2019s incredible. This is someone I greatly admire suggesting me for this huge record,\u2019\u201d Branch recalls. Of course, Branch crushed it, nearly recording her vocals in one take. \u201cEverybody in the control room had our jaws dropped,\u201d Alexander recalls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tUnfortunately, Davis died before the pair could play the reimagined \u201cThe Game of Love\u201d for him. \u201cAs fate would have it, I was flying back from Prague to present the record to Clive and it was the exact same day that Clive passed away,\u201d Alexander says. That\u2019s a really beautiful thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBranch may be revisiting the past, but she\u2019s looking forward to what comes next, too.
