BRAT<\/strong> have confirmed they will be releasing their new album \u201cManslayer<\/strong>\u201d on September 25th through Prosthetic Records<\/strong>. The self-proclaimed \u2018bimboviolence\u2019 band recorded that effort at Bricktop Recording<\/strong> in Chicago, IL with Weekend Nachos<\/strong>\u2018 Andy Nelson<\/strong> overseeing the production, engineering and mastering duties.<\/p>\n A music video directed by John Colgan<\/strong> for the first single, \u201cManslayer (Hell Hath No Fury)<\/strong>\u201c, received its online premiere today, July 14th, and can be seen below. A press release for \u201cManslayer<\/strong>\u201d points out that vocalist Liz Selfish<\/strong> drew lyrical inspiration from country songs about women\u2019s revenge like \u201cGoodbye Earl<\/strong>\u201d by The Chicks<\/strong>, \u201cBefore He Cheats<\/strong>\u201d by Carrie Underwood<\/strong> and \u201cGunpowder & Lead<\/strong>\u201d by Miranda Lambert<\/strong> in shaping these tracks.<\/p>\n Selfish<\/strong> elaborated on that:<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s not a lot of those tropes in death metal, which I think primarily is because there\u2019s not a lot of women in that space. I thought that was a really cool perspective and I really liked the storytelling aspect of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Previously, her husband\/bandmate<\/a>, guitarist Brenner Moate<\/strong>, had assumed the lyrical writing duties in the band. However \u201cManslayer<\/strong>\u201d has found Selfish<\/strong> stepping up to the plate with her own contributions. She said of that:<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s quite new territory for me, and it wasn\u2019t necessarily an intentional thing initially. I wrote the first song for the album, and I just loved writing, and I was like, \u2018I really love doing this, and I want to do more\u2019, so I ended up writing the whole album. Brenner<\/strong>\u2019s main focus is writing music \u2013 he wants to write riffs \u2013 so he wasn\u2019t too torn up about not writing the lyrics. It was a nice passing of the torch.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n She also went on to offer the following about the darker nature found on this record:<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re evolving the bimboviolence and the campiness by making it all a little bit darker with this album, and a bit more overtly violent.
