George Lucas<\/strong>, known for creating the Star Wars<\/a>universe, has said he thinks artificial intelligence is the future of Hollywood.<\/p>\n Lucas spoke with A Rabbit\u2019s Foot<\/a>earlier this month. His stance on AI is that it makes the creative process easier. \u201cArtificial intelligence means it\u2019s much easier for us to make movies,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s very much like sitting here saying, \u2018Well, I believe the horse and the buggy is really where it\u2019s at. These cars, they break down, they need gas, there\u2019s all kinds of problems with them, and pretty soon they\u2019ll be making them into tanks, and then they\u2019ll be killing people. It\u2019s terrible.\u2019 There\u2019s nothing you can do about it. That\u2019s progress, it\u2019s the future,\u201d the director continued.<\/p>\n The director believes that AI can help solve some of the very issues people are concerned about. \u201cIf you want AI that tells you when something is fake and where it came from, AI can do that. Humans can\u2019t; we\u2019re not that smart.\u201d<\/p>\n Generally, there has been strong distaste expressed by creators in Hollywood. The animosity stems from concerns that AI could take creative jobs and make art more repetitive or less human. The fact that AI is not generating new content but rather blending existing work has sparked considerable anger among artists. Another concern with AI is the amount of water that data centers consume and contaminate, which will aid in creating a water bankruptcy.<\/p>\n Earlier this year, the Human Artistry Campaign launched \u201cSteal Isn\u2019t Art,\u201d a campaign that aims to call out tech companies for training their generative AI tools on copyrighted works without permission. Scarlett Johansson<\/a><\/strong>, Cate Blanchett<\/strong>, Joseph Gordon-Levitt,<\/strong>Kristen Bell, Vince Gilligan<\/strong>, and Cyndi Lauper<\/strong> are just a handful of the nearly 1000 celebrities who back the campaign.<\/p>\n Lucas has always been an early adopter of new technology in the film industry, even when it has drawn serious criticism. He even invented the technology to create shots as he envisioned them and waited until CGI was up to the level he needed before making the Star Wars prequels.<\/p>\n Though Lucas has credits as the creator on every Star Wars franchise project, he does not often write on the movies or shows. After selling Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012, Lucas has not been involved in the writing of any newer Star Wars content, including the sequel trilogy.<\/p>\n A few other directors have explained that they view generative AI more favorably.
