A set of unreleased David Bowie<\/a> recordings from 1965 are set to be released on a new compilation.<\/p>\n

The tracks, which were made with producer Shel Talmy back when Bowie was still known as Davie Jones, will appear on The Shel Talmy Recordings<\/em>, which will arrive on September 16th through Parlophone.<\/p>\n

To tease the forthcoming compilation, the previously unheard track \u2018I Want Your Love\u2019, which is one of ten songs that have never before been heard by the public.<\/p>\n

The set of tracks doesn\u2019t just feature a pre-fame Bowie, either. It also includes contributions from Jimmy Page back when he was a gun-for-hire as a session musician<\/a> before joining The Yardbirds and subsequently forming Led Zeppelin.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Nicky Hopkins, who would go on to play piano for bands like The Rolling Stones, can also be heard on The Shel Talmy Recordings<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Music historian Alec Palao writes of the compilation in the liner notes, \u201cDavid Bowie the artist is a book of chapters, the turn of each page delivering something completely different and unexpected from the last. And in perusal, a cardinal error would be to pit any of these episodes against the others, when in fact each fascinating phase in his career should be considered complementary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paleo adds, \u201cThis collection, a primary chapter if not the very earliest instalment in David\u2019s musical journey, deserves legitimate consideration. It is invariably tempting to search for clues in an artist\u2019s tentative beginnings, and Bowie\u2019s juvenilia has been dissected more than most, but this has rarely been done within the proper context.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also importantly states, \u201cThe sounds here should not be judged by the standards of his later career, but by the standards of what was happening in Britain at that precise point in time. In which case, they speak as loudly of the excitement of London and its music scene in that pivotal year of 1965 as they do for the launch of its brightest future star.\u201d<\/p>\n

Talmy, who died in 2024<\/a>, was already an established name by this point, having produced The Kinks\u2019 \u2018You Really Got Me\u2019 and The Who\u2019s \u2018I Can\u2019t Explain\u2019. He met Bowie on Denmark Street in London, which led to them joining forces in the studio.<\/p>\n

While Bowie never found fame or riches under his birth name, Talmy remarked in 2017, \u201cI thought he absolutely was going to make it. The only unfortunate thing is that he and I were about six years ahead of the market.\u201d<\/p>\n
