A documentary filmmaker traveling the country in a van just spent time in Orlando\u2019s independent music scene, and what he found might surprise people who only know the city for its theme parks, but not us locals. <\/p>\n
Global Rock Underground<\/strong> (Instagram<\/a> <\/strong>| YouTube<\/a><\/strong>) host Tony Riucciuti, who documents music scenes across the country from his van, Big Bertha, for his YouTube series Live from the Underground<\/em>, dedicated a recent episode to Orlando and spent some time in Mills 50 and the surrounding neighborhood to explore the scene and interview local bands.<\/p>\n The episode covers venues like Will\u2019s Pub<\/strong> (Website<\/a><\/strong>) and its sister space Conduit <\/strong>(Website<\/a><\/strong>) in Winter Park, and the network of promoters, photographers, bookers, and bands that have quietly built one of Florida\u2019s most active underground music communities. Riucciuti also pays tribute to Uncle Lou\u2019s, which has since closed, pausing the video to note that Lou is currently being deported<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cTo so many people in Orlando, Uncle Lou\u2019s was more than just a dive bar or some punk venue,\u201d Tony said in the video. \u201cIt was a home for many locals and the starting point for dozens of Orlando bands.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOrlando is a sleeper city with an incredible music scene,\u201d he said at the episode\u2019s close. \u201cGo book or see a show here.
