RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) — <\/span>Two defendants appeared in court on Thursday in connection with the violence in Glenwood South<\/a> on the Fourth of July.<\/p>\n David Elijah Lane, 20, was in court on felony rioting charges, but he is also charged with misdemeanor simple assault and resisting arrest in connection with the fights in Glenwood South when 8,000 people swarmed the street<\/a>.<\/p>\n Next in court was Amir Chance McClain, 22, who also faces a felony rioting charge. He is accused of assaulting a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer.<\/p>\n New details revealed in court showed a Raleigh police officer suffered an elbow injury while breaking up a fight allegedly involving the two defendants.<\/p>\n McClain’s defense attorney said both defendants turned themselves in and claimed that his client was being attacked by the crowd on Glenwood South.<\/p>\n ALSO SEE |<\/strong> Summer series highlights Raleigh Police Department’s downtown safety efforts<\/a><\/p>\n “Mr. McClain was being attacked by a bunch of underage individuals,” the attorney said. “The other three individuals actually helped him, and when the officers went to break up the fight, the agitators were the ones to get away.”<\/p>\n Lane was given a $10,000 bond. McClain was granted a $6,000 bond.
