The American Music Awards handed him a Lifetime Achievement Award in May. &#8220;When I started out in punk rock back in 1976, we thought it may only last about six months \u2014 let alone 50 years,&#8221; he said while accepting, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ca.style.yahoo.com\/billy-idol-thought-career-might-080000451.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">as per Yahoo.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-paragraph paragraph css-1cb8b4k\" data-og-block-area=\"article-blocks\" data-og-block-nth=\"4\" data-og-block-type=\"core\/paragraph\" data-rawhtml=\"1\">\n<p>This November, he&#8217;ll get into the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame. This year&#8217;s class also features Oasis, Sade, Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Luther Vandross, Wu-Tang Clan, and Joy Division\/New Order.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-paragraph paragraph css-1cb8b4k\" data-og-block-area=\"article-blocks\" data-og-block-nth=\"5\" data-og-block-type=\"core\/paragraph\" data-rawhtml=\"1\">\n<p>Last month, the singer opened up about what &#8220;White Wedding&#8221; meant when he wrote it. &#8220;Well, &#8216;White Wedding&#8217; was a bit of an anti-marriage song, but people get married to it,&#8221; he told <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/billy-idol-funny-people-get-married-to-white-wedding-11983909\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">People<\/a>. &#8220;So, there you go. They changed that, the meaning of that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-paragraph paragraph css-1cb8b4k\" data-og-block-area=\"article-blocks\" data-og-block-nth=\"6\" data-og-block-type=\"core\/paragraph\" data-rawhtml=\"1\">\n<p>He went on: &#8220;It&#8217;s funny, but it&#8217;s great. I&#8217;m glad people have enjoyed it.
