Craig Melvin<\/strong> <\/a>gave an update on his well-being after an incident<\/a> with an intruder on the Today<\/em><\/a> show set.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to take a quick minute to address an incident that happened yesterday,\u201d Melvin, 47, said during the Friday, July 17, episode of the NBC morning show while sitting with Carson Daly, Laura Jarrett<\/strong> and Al Roker<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou may have heard that unfortunately an intruder made his way into an unauthorized area here at Studio 1A,\u201d he continued. \u201cThankfully he was apprehended quickly [and] he was placed under arrest.\u201d<\/p>\n

Melvin added: \u201cWe are cooperating fully with the NYPD as they investigate the matter and we are just very happy that everyone is safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jarrett, 42, noted that Melvin\u2019s safety was the most important thing, and he assured his colleagues \u2014 as well as viewers at home \u2014 that he is \u201csafe and sound.\u201d<\/p>\n

News broke on Thursday, July 16, that a person \u2014 later identified as 41-year-old Andrew Truelove<\/strong> \u2014 was arrested after walking onto the New York City set.<\/a><\/p>\n

Truelove reportedly asked for Roker, 71, before confronting Melvin instead. The intruder allegedly lunged at Melvin and yelled a racial slur.<\/p>\n

The incident took place after Melvin cohosted the first and third hours of the Today<\/em> show with Roker, Savannah Guthrie<\/em> and Dylan Dreyer<\/em>. It was not caught on camera.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a security incident this morning at the TODAY show studio. An individual entered an unauthorized area in a vestibule near Studio 1A,\u201d read a statement from Today show on Thursday. \u201cThe person approached anchor Craig Melvin, who alerted security. The individual was detained and taken into custody by law enforcement without further incident. There was no altercation, and no one was injured.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement continued, \u201cTODAY is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter. NBC and TODAY take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff and guests extremely seriously. We are reviewing the incident and our security protocols and remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone who works at and visits our studios.\u201d<\/p>\n
