Kelly Clarkson <\/strong><\/a>is breaking down the meaning behind her new single, \u201cI\u2019d Be Lyin\u2019.\u201d.<\/p>\n

Clarkson, 44, released the song on Friday, July 17, singing about an interaction with a mystery person.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d be lyin\u2019 if I said I do \/ You\u2019re hearin\u2019 only what you\u2019re wantin\u2019 to \/ I take a shot every time you lie \/ I\u2019ve never been so damn drunk in my life,\u201d the lyrics read.<\/p>\n

Clarkson recently reflected on the song\u2019s significance<\/a> during a broadcast on her SiriusXM channel, The Kelly Clarkson Connection<\/em>. \u201cSo basically my new song, \u2018I\u2019d Be Lyin\u2019,\u2019 is about when you\u2019re talking to someone and it\u2019s like what you\u2019re saying is somehow being filtered because it\u2019s not what they\u2019re hearing,\u201d she explained. \u201cAnd if I just leaned in and just said what they wanted to hear, I would be lying.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clarkson noted that she had a specific vision for how the \u201canthem\u201d would sound.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe vibe in the verse is kind of, it\u2019s not like Prince, but it\u2019s definitely Prince-inspired with the staccato kind of poppiness of it,\u201d she said. \u201cIt has a lot of attitude, and then the chorus kind of opens up into this major pop-rock vibe that is very reminiscent of a Kelly Clarkson empowerment anthem.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cBut yeah, it\u2019s very sarcastic and it was fun as hell to make, and I like a fun, anthemic, sarcastic song.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d Be Lyin\u2019\u201d is Clarkson\u2019s first single since<\/a> 2025\u2019s \u201cWhere Have You Been.\u201d She previously credited the romance between Martin Short<\/strong> and Meryl Streep<\/strong>\u2019s characters in Only Murders in the Building<\/em> for inspiring that song.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve rarely done something like this, but I was watching Only Murders in the Building \u2014 it\u2019s Martin Short\u2019s face,\u201d she shared on The Kelly Clarkson Connection at the time. \u201cHe says to Meryl Streep\u2019s character in the show, \u2018Where have you been?\u2019 He\u2019s, like, in awe and I was like, \u2018Has there been a \u2014 has anyone written a song?\u2019 Because the song is happy. It\u2019s like you found something that you thought was almost basically a unicorn and did not exist.\u201d<\/p>\n
