Action star Iko Uwais is set to lead “Jakarta,” a multi-generational family crime series in development at Alcon Entertainment, with Albert Hughes attached to direct the pilot and serve as producing director.<\/p>\n
The project comes from writers Kirk Ward and Joshua W. Wagner, with Ward also locked in as showrunner. Hughes and Ward previously worked together on “The Continental,” the “John Wick” prequel event series that aired on Peacock. “Jakarta” marks their second collaboration, this time pairing Ward’s drama-writing background with Hughes’ feature filmmaking credentials to create what the producers are positioning as a grounded, visceral crime epic.<\/p>\n

Hughes, Ward, and Wagner round out the executive producing team.<\/p>\n The series is set in Indonesia’s capital as the city navigates rapid globalization, drawing on Uwais’ reputation for physically demanding action work, built across films including “The Raid” and “Wu Assassins,” as well as “Road House 2.” Hughes is best known for directing “Menace II Society” and “The Book of Eli.”<\/p>\n Alcon Entertainment, whose credits include “Blade Runner 2049” and “The Expanse,” is producing.<\/p>\n Uwais is represented by Gersh and Vault Entertainment. Hughes is repped by Range Media Partners. Ward is represented by Gersh, and Wagner by Gersh and Lit Entertainment.<\/p>\n The action star is also set to lead John Radel’s “Warrior,” <\/a>an Indonesian action thriller that brings him back to the Silat-based fighting style that launched his career, and hospital siege thriller “MRI,”<\/a>\u00a0with Liam O’Donnell (“Alphas”) directing.
