Academy Award-winning actress Octavia Spencer paid a visit to Rochester on Friday to accept the George Eastman Award.<\/p>\n
The award is given out to acknowledge the lifetime body of work and contributions made by the recipient to the film industry.<\/p>\n
Spencer was on hand for an event Friday morning, at which she was presented with a proclamation naming the day as Octavia Spencer Day in Rochester.<\/p>\n
During the event, Spencer made sure to praise George Eastman and the impact he had on her.<\/p>\n
“But his philanthropy and his contributions to the arts, contributions to film \u2014 my career and so many others would not be possible without his advances and innovation,” Spencer said.<\/p>\n
Spencer won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 2011 film “The Help.”<\/p>\n
The George Eastman Award ceremony is set to take place in the Dryden Theatre Friday at 8 p.m.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
