Air guitars at the ready, because Scotland is about to welcome its first museum dedicated entirely to rock n roll.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Glasgow locals will probably have spotted the CCA-shaped hole on Sauchiehall Street<\/a> over the past few months. The Glasgow<\/a> Centre For Contemporary Arts permanently closed its doors at the end of January after concerns were raised over its finances, leaving its former art gallery, caf\u00e9, cinema and performance space vacant.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, the big cultural boots left by the museum are about to be filled. That\u2019s because ScotsRock<\/strong>, the first dedicated Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll Hall of Fame celebrating the country\u2019s contribution to music, is taking it over.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Plans for the space include a permanent exhibition and visitor experience space, a live performance venue, education and outreach programme, archive facility and a hub dedicated to supporting emerging artists and creative businesses.\u00a0<\/span>It\u2019ll pay tribute to the musicians, bands, producers and songwriters who have cemented their place in Scotland\u2019s rock n roll history<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019ll have to wait to find out exactly which artists will be honoured by the new music centre, but we do know that icons of Scottish music including Lulu, Jim Kerr of Simple Minds, Travis and Del Amitri have all offered their support.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Midge Ure, who fronted bands from Thin Lizzy to Band Aid and Ultravox, has come on board as ScotsRock\u2019s inaugural patron.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018This has never been done, and it should have been done. In hindsight, it\u2019s a major mistake. For a small country we punch way above our weight when it comes to global musicians,\u2019 Ure said of the launch. \u2018If you go to Cleveland, their Hall of Fame is very American, so I ask myself, why are we not doing the same in Scotland? We should be… and I\u2019m very proud to be part of it.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

ScotsRock plans to welcome its first visitors to its site at 350 Sauchiehall St, Glasgow G2 3JD from July 2028.<\/span><\/p>\n
