This somewhat unconventional decision to revisit their previous album, 2024\u2019s \u201c<strong>Liminal Animals<\/strong>\u201c, to serve up a new music video comes with a lengthy explanation from the band. Speaking on their social media today, July 17th, they stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cNew video for \u2018old\u2019 song: \u201cHollywood Babylon\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Our dearest @sara_khorami_official stars in this retro-futuristic gem, initiated, curated, and created by @johnsen_and_mona<\/p>\n<p>2025 marked 20 years since <strong>ULVER<\/strong> made the animated music video \u2018<strong>It is Not Sound<\/strong>\u2018 in cooperation with <strong>AKFF! <\/strong>A hypnotic journey through the Sea of Sorrows all the way to the Pinnacle of Truth. Thinking back on what an incredible experience it was to visualise and expand on <strong>Ulver<\/strong>\u2019s universe, we started wondering why <strong>AKFF!<\/strong> hadn\u2019t made more videos with them. As it turns out, <strong>Ulver<\/strong> had been thinking along the same lines. And so it began.<\/p>\n<p>The video is set in a sleek, neon-drenched futuristic world that blends the gothic dread of <strong>Nosferatu<\/strong> (1922), the towering megalopolis of <strong>Metropolis<\/strong> (1927), and the glowing cyber-grid of <strong>Tron<\/strong> (1982).<\/p>\n<p>The result? A dazzling, hyper-stylized satire of our own era: a shallow, selfie-obsessed society where image is everything, substance is optional, and your reflection might be plotting against you.<\/p>\n<p>At the heart of the story is our heroine, desperately trying to cling to her fading beauty. She steps into a retro-futuristic arcade machine called the \u2018Better Face Remodeller\u2019 \u2014 an arcade machine that promises a convenient way to mould yourself a new face. What could possibly go wrong?<\/p>\n<p>Spoiler: it goes spectacularly wrong. Instead of perfection, the machine spits out a grotesque yet strangely charismatic doppelg\u00e4nger \u2014 a monstrous mirror of her own insecurities, now fully autonomous and very interested in taking over her life. Because nothing says \u2018self-improvement\u2019 like being replaced by your own upgraded nightmare.<\/p>\n<p>After a year of ever-expanding ambitions, endless tweaks, and several \u2018wait\u2026 what if we make it just a bit weirder?\u2019 moments, <strong>Ulver<\/strong>\u2019s \u2018<strong>Hollywood Babylon<\/strong>\u2018 music video is finally R.E.A.D.Y!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ulver<\/strong> adds: \u201cWorking with our wonderfully mad old friend <strong>Christian<\/strong> (<strong>Mona<\/strong>) from the Bogus Blimp days never disappoints. \u2018<strong>Hollywood Babylon<\/strong>\u2019 has never looked better! It\u2019s a distorted mirror of our times.
