\n\tIcons only! The Rolling Stones<\/a> cover the latest issue of Billboard<\/em>,<\/a> talking about the special guests on their new album Foreign Tongues<\/em>, thoughts about AI in music, their studio dynamic and more.<\/p>\n \n\tFor the cover story, I sat down with Mick Jagger at a poolside garden in London and Keith Richards at the Django Jazz Club in Manhattan some 48 hours later. The interviews covered a lot of ground, and there\u2019s only so much room in a magazine cover story \u2013 there were a lot of great things they talked about that we just didn\u2019t have space to run in print.<\/p>\n \n\tBelow, check out a few newsy, fascinating and distinctly Stonesy bits that didn\u2019t make the cover story: you can watch some of these exchanges on YouTube, but a couple of them don\u2019t appear anywhere else but here.<\/p>\n \n\tBefore the cameras started rolling, Jagger pointed to our film crew and three-camera setup and commented, \u201cLots of people on set. God, I remember when Billboard<\/em> was an interview with a notepad.\u201d That prompted me to hold aloft my little red notepad, which I\u2019d actually picked up from London\u2019s Design Museum<\/a> the previous day. (I wanted to check out an exhibit devoted to Wes Anderson, a filmmaker who coincidentally has done a few Stones needle drops throughout his oeuvre.) \u201cYou do have the notepad!\u201d Mick beamed. \u201cSo you\u2019re a traditionalist.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tSpeaking of traditionalists, Richards, in his interview, revealed he doesn\u2019t even own a cellphone and doesn\u2019t appreciate \u201cthe idea of being permanently available for everybody to call up when they feel like it. Nobody thinks, \u2018You know, that\u2019s damn rude \u2014 he might be writing a song, doing something else.’\u201d I put forth a pretty believable hypothetical: \u201cYou got your manager sitting over there [off camera]. Jane [Rose] wants to get in touch with you, how does that happen?\u201d His sly reply: \u201cWell, it doesn\u2019t.\u201d After the interview, Rose took me aside and told me one word: \u201cLandline.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\n\t\tKeeping It Analog\t<\/h2>\n
