Whether this actually happens, I don\u2019t know\u2026 All I can tell you for sure is they want it to happen, and they think it\u2019s going to happen. They feel optimistic that they are on their way back in, in some way.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Boshoff, whose work has for years been a reliable bellwether of global gossip, wrote a blockbuster story in <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/news\/royals\/article-15985633\/Harry-estranged-love-plan-reverse-Megxit-ALISON-BOSHOFF-messages-William.html\"><span>The Daily Mail<\/span><\/a><span> this week saying that \u201cthe Sussexes are seeking to reverse Megxit,\u201d and that \u201ca return to the UK is being contemplated in some form.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The big picture will not be news to readers of  The Royalist, but it represents the first time a major British newspaper has so definitively planted a flag on this story.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"youtube2-trSWcAFJm84\" data-attrs=\"{&quot;videoId&quot;:&quot;trSWcAFJm84&quot;,&quot;startTime&quot;:&quot;2s&quot;,&quot;endTime&quot;:null}\" data-component-name=\"Youtube2ToDOM\" class=\"youtube-wrap\">\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/trSWcAFJm84?start=2s&amp;rel=0&amp;autoplay=0&amp;showinfo=0&amp;enablejsapi=0\" frameborder=\"0\" loading=\"lazy\" gesture=\"media\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowautoplay=\"true\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"728\" height=\"409\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>One extraordinary line in her report, from a source who knows Harry well, pointed to tensions at the heart of the Sussex marriage: \u201cI don\u2019t think he\u2019s ever wanted to be estranged from his family. I think when he was madly in love with Meghan he could be blind enough to choose her. Now things are different, and the veil is lifting.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>All of this comes after the biggest pivot point in the story of Megxit\u2014the audience at Highgrove eight days ago, attended by Harry, Meghan, Archie, Lilibet, the king and, significantly, Queen Camilla,<\/span><strong><span> <\/span><\/strong><span>whom Harry branded \u201cdangerous\u201d and a \u201cvillain\u201d during the promotional tour for his memoir, <\/span><em><span>Spare<\/span><\/em><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Boshoff told The Royalist that a source in the Sussex camp had told her it was \u201cbaby steps\u2026 but in the right direction. At this point it\u2019s all about direction of travel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Why now?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Because, Boshoff says, the Sussexes\u2019 American dream is dying, and they know it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHarry and Meghan both feel that America is kind of cooling on them,\u201d she said, citing a source who knows Harry well and is plugged into his charity circle. \u201cI was really surprised that this had been a topic of discussion among these people, that Harry was feeling like he wasn\u2019t actually all that welcome in America anymore.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Meghan, the source said, feels she \u201chas to push and push\u201d to get projects moving.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The shift, as described by Boshoff to The Royalist, is dramatic. \u201cEighteen months ago I spoke to a communications professional on Team Sussex who said to me: Harry\u2019s never coming back to the U.K. He has no interest in it. Loves his life in California. He\u2019s here forever,\u201d Boshoff said. \u201cAnd that has completely changed. It\u2019s just turned around, quite quietly, while we\u2019ve all been looking at other things. Their eyes are on Europe again, and the U.K.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On the podcast, I noted in response that my sources have gone from, \u201cHarry is loving California, he\u2019s loving the sunshine and swimming in the pool,\u201d to, \u201cOf course he wants to spend more time in the United Kingdom. It\u2019s his home.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Boshoff concurred: \u201cHarry and Meghan both feel that America is kind of cooling on them, and they want to be liked in the U.K. now. That\u2019s where they\u2019re focusing. It\u2019s a charm offensive\u2026 He\u2019s trying to be appealing again to ordinary people who have not enjoyed being called racists, and not enjoyed the things he said about his family.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The family is now openly wooing the U.K., from the essay in which Harry pointedly wrote that he only \u201ccurrently\u201d lives in the U.S., to his son Archie being photographed in an England football shirt or a banter-heavy appearance on Joe Marler\u2019s podcast, which showcased \u201cboobs, bums and rugby Harry, not therapized Harry.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Royalist\u2019s own view, which I put to Boshoff, is that what Harry and Meghan want hasn\u2019t changed one iota from six years ago: freedom to do and say whatever they like, plus the trappings of royalty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>If they can negotiate with Charles even the tiniest official royal role in the UK, that unlocks everything: it would bring security, somewhere to live, and a whole new level of legitimacy. It would also be precisely the half-in, half-out arrangement the late queen expressly banned in one of her final significant constitutional acts. And it would be a massive gamble by Charles, given how unpopular the couple remain in Britain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The next staging posts are already visible. Harry is expected back in September with the expectation that he will finally take up the offer of a stay at Buckingham Palace.
