From Shrek 2 to The Namesake, a lineup of anniversary screenings and family favorites is headed to Prospect Park and Fort Greene Park this summer.<\/p>\n
Brooklyn residents will once again be able to enjoy free outdoor movie nights this summer as Prospect Park Alliance<\/a>, Fort Greene Park Conservancy<\/a> and Rooftop Films<\/a> bring back Summer Movies in the Park<\/a>.<\/p>\n The annual series, presented by NewYork-Presbyterian<\/a>, returns with four evening screenings in Prospect Park and Fort Greene Park, offering free entertainment for families and moviegoers throughout August and September.<\/p>\n The lineup begins Aug. 5 with Shrek 2<\/em> at the north end of Prospect Park’s Long Meadow near the Grand Army Plaza entrance, followed by a 20th anniversary screening of Akeelah and the Bee<\/em> on Aug. 12 at the same location.<\/p>\n “NewYork-Presbyterian is proud to support Prospect Park Alliance for another year of Summer Movies in the Park\u00a0and the opportunity it creates for neighbors, families and friends to come together and enjoy Brooklyn’s public spaces,” said Juan Mejia, president of NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. “Seeing an outdoor movie in the park brings Brooklyn residents together, fostering the social connections that help communities thrive and support overall.”<\/p>\n The series then moves to Fort Greene Park’s Central Lawn, where Space Jam<\/em> will celebrate its 30th anniversary on Aug. 26 before concluding on Sept. 9 with a 20th-anniversary screening of The Namesake<\/em>.\u00a0 All films begin shortly after sundown\u00a0and attendees are encouraged to arrive early with blankets and picnic dinners for pre-movie activities.<\/p>\n The longstanding program continues a popular Brooklyn summer tradition by bringing residents together in two of the borough’s best-known parks. Beyond providing free entertainment, the series encourages neighbors, families and visitors to gather in shared public spaces while highlighting Brooklyn’s parks as places for community events and cultural programming.<\/p>\n This year’s lineup pairs family favorites with milestone anniversary screenings spanning animation, sports comedy, coming-of-age storytelling and cultural drama.\u00a0<\/p>\n The screenings are free to attend\u00a0and organizers encourage guests to RSVP in advance and arrive early to enjoy the parks before the movies begin.
