Prince Joffrey arrives at the Red Keep in House of the Dragon<\/em><\/a> Season 3, Episode 5<\/a> \u2014 but those who aren’t playing close attention to the Game of Thrones<\/em><\/a> spinoff’s family tree may find themselves wondering who that even is. Admittedly, we’ve seen little of Joffrey in recent episodes of the HBO series. Really, he’s barely in the show at all. SPOILERS ahead for <\/strong>House of the Dragon<\/em><\/strong> Season 3, Episodes 1-5.<\/strong><\/p>\n Rhaenyra calls for him following Prince Jace’s tragic demise<\/a> at the Battle of the Gullet in House of the Dragon<\/em><\/a> Season 3, Episode 1<\/a>. Yet it’s an easy thing to miss, especially amid all the other drama taking centerstage this season. Those who didn’t catch that mention \u2014 and Lord Corlys’ very loud assertion that he’s a “bastard” \u2014 will likely be wondering why there’s a new prince looking for Rhaenyra in “Unbowed and Unbent.” We’ve seen the boy before, albeit briefly.<\/p>\n Prince Joffrey is the third and youngest of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s sons with Ser Harwin Strong \u2014 who, for the purposes of the realm, are classed as her children with Laenor Velaryon. Jace was the eldest of the three, with Lucerys being the middle child. With both perishing in the Dance of the Dragons, Prince Joffrey is now the heir to the Iron Throne.<\/p>\n That’s why he’s in King’s Landing, though it’s been a while since he’s seen his mother. He’s very young during the few glimpses we get of him in Seasons 1 and 2. He’s sent away from the action in House of the Dragon<\/em> Season 2, which is why he’s been absent. You can feel the distance between him and Rhaenyra, especially since she seems scared to get close to him in this week’s episode.<\/p>\n In House of the Dragon<\/em> Season 2, Rhaenyra sends Prince Joffrey away with his two younger brothers \u2014 her two sons with Daemon \u2014 Aegon III and Viserys II. Since they’re all so young, they’re sent to the Vale to be kept away from the violent feud between the Blacks and Greens. In fact, Joffrey is one of the children that Rhaena is initially looking after, though he doesn’t join his two brothers when they board a ship to Pentos.<\/p>\n Joffrey’s return should be an interesting one, as he’s now much more important…but still probably too young and out of the loop to truly be involved in Rhaenyra’s war. Of course, it’s the Game of Thrones universe, so that won’t prevent him from being caught up in it.
