A year later, bassist Berry Oakley died in his own motorcycle accident. His mother went to college in order to support the family and was required to live on the campus. As a result, Gregg was sent to military school for third and fourth grade, along with his older brother Duane. \u201cThat was something that really, deeply hurt Gregg,\u201d says Duane\u2019s daughter Galadrielle. \u201cIt stayed with him. He felt abandoned.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"otis-redding-and-jackie-wilson-changed-gregg-s-life\" class=\"heading larva \/\/   lrv-a-font-primary-l   \">\n\t\tOtis Redding and Jackie Wilson changed Gregg\u2019s life.\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe first concert Gregg and Duane ever saw took place at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. The bill included Jackie Wilson and Otis Redding. Prior to that, they mainly listened to acts like the Beach Boys and the Ventures. I said, \u2018Guy, I got a new song for us.\u2019 I sat down at the piano. I tried playing it. You would have thought a train went by. Nobody said nothing. And finally, one of the people in the Allman Brothers stood up and said, \u2018Man, it just ain\u2019t saying nothing.\u2019 Man, I went ballistic\u2026I walked toward the door and said, \u2018All of you, screw this. Willie even said to me, \u2018Are you alright?\u2019 I said, \u2018Willie, I\u2019m not alright.\u2019 As luck would have it, I saw a film of it about two or three days later. I just cried like a baby. I knew I didn\u2019t know how to stop. I went to 14 rehabs. But I didn\u2019t go to 15.
