He didn\u2019t play in Sunday\u2019s finale against the San Diego Padres due to back tightness. And on Monday, the injury flared up again as <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/sports\/mlb\/kansas-city-royals\/article316588316.html\">Witt left in the fifth inning<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s still pretty stiff,\u201d Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. \u201cI mean his back spasm (locked up) pretty good yesterday, which is why he came out. And he is still feeling that today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Witt is expected to be day-to-day with the injury. On Tuesday, the Royals listed Tyler Tolbert as the starting shortstop against the Giants.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Witt has dealt with back tightness at different points during this season. He played through the injury, but the Royals will take a cautious approach.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to see,\u201d Quatraro said. \u201cObviously, we need to get the spasm to relax first, and then, figure out if it\u2019s something that he can play through and how long that would be until he can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The Royals have been <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/sports\/spt-columns-blogs\/sam-mcdowell\/article316347442.html\">hindered by injuries all season<\/a>. Witt is the latest player to be sidelined, alongside All-Star pitchers Cole Ragans, Kris Bubic and Carlos Est\u00e9vez among others.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Witt also missed six games with a Grade 1 MCL sprain in June.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>This season, Witt is hitting .279 with 13 home runs and 39 RBIs. He\u2019s recorded 30 stolen bases and an .800 OPS (on-base plus slugging).
