Darkwave fans will be feasting soon. Synthpop duo Boy Harsher, Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller, are returning with a new album, their first album since 2019’s Careful<\/em> and the original soundtrack they made for their horror film The Runner<\/em> in 2022. Last month they teased the new project with mall anthem “Jeans<\/a>.” Now, they’re back with the follow-up “Hard Beat” to announce new album Get Mean<\/em>, their first since the end of Matthews and Muller’s romantic relationship.<\/p>\n The accompanying visual is something out of the horror movie Saw<\/em>. Vocalist Jae Matthews sits in a dingy, decrepit room. We see her through the lens of an old video recorder. She sits in a wheelchair, hair hiding most of her face like The Ring<\/em>‘s Samara, while one of her legs is in a strange metal brace. Static buzzes, a slender keyboard melody rattles off, and then we’re dropped into the stealth electronic beat as the camera shifts to a car cruising down a highway at night. Actors Cheeky Ma and Mo Stark sit in the front of the car, eyeing Matthews who is later dressed in a black veil. <\/p>\n Even though it’s unclear what’s happening, there’s a sleek sense of voyeurism and danger.
