The <\/span>Australian National Academy of Music <\/b>(ANAM) has welcomed <\/span>Adam Szabo <\/b>as its Managing Director from January 2027. Szabo will succeed <\/span>Kate Mazoudier<\/b>, who is serving as interim Managing Director until December 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n With over a decade of experience leading major international arts organisations, Szabo was most recently appointed as Director of the <\/span>BBC Philharmonic Orchestra <\/b>in 2024. Prior to that, he served as CEO and Artistic Director of the <\/span>Manchester Collective<\/b>, which he co-founded in 2016.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Hailing from Sydney, Szabo first trained as a cellist at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and at the Royal Northern College of Music. He later served as Principal Cello with the <\/span>Welsh National Opera<\/b>, Associate Principal Cello with the <\/span>Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra<\/b>, and was a member of the <\/span>Ulster Orchestra<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n ANAM writes that Szabo is returning to Australia with \u201cstrong global connections and a track record of combining artistic ambition with financial sustainability.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAdam is ideally placed to build ANAM’s programs and elevate our global profile,\u201d <\/span>says<\/b><\/a> ANAM Chair <\/span>John Daley AM<\/b>, who also notes the institution\u2019s preparations to move into the $100 million redeveloped South Melbourne Town Hall in 2028.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAlready renowned for its unique training program and world-class alumni, ANAM\u2019s return to a beautifully reimagined, state-of-the-art South Melbourne Town Hall is a once in a generation opportunity,\u201d Szabo adds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI have loved working for the<\/span> @bbcphilharmonic<\/span><\/a>,\u201d Szabo also <\/span>shares on Instagram<\/b><\/a>. \u201cIt took about three minutes for the mission of this place to get totally under my skin, and it has been a huge privilege for me to play a part in the work of this magnificent orchestra \u2026 Thank you to my wonderful colleagues \u2014 it has been such an honour.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cOf course, the end of one chapter points to the beginning of another.
