At this point, seeing photos of actors wandering around in period costumes and Ugg boots on the set of their films is something of a tradition, but apparently that wasn\u2019t the vibe on The Odyssey due to director Christopher Nolan having a strict \u201cNo Uggs\u201d rule.<\/p>\n

As Anne Hathaway told USA Today<\/a>, \u201cI did show up one day with Uggs, and he looked down and went \u2018Nope.\u2019 I just went \u2018No problem!\u2019 And they never came back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nolan was asked about his aversion to Uggs by CBS and explained that they are \u201ca signifier of modernity.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe funny thing is, you can be on a set, where you\u2019ve got a guy holding a microphone, you\u2019ve got a giant camera, you\u2019ve got crew everywhere,\u201d he said. \u201cBut something like that can actually weirdly take you out of reality. And for me, I think that\u2019s always been something, where, it\u2019s like if someone\u2019s eating a bag of chips off-camera or something.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cThere are just certain things that remind you you\u2019re in the real world as opposed to the world we\u2019re trying to create for the actors. I want to stay in the moment, we want the actors to stay in the moment. And so for me, Ugg boots are a signifier of modernity.\u201d<\/p>\n

By the way, this isn\u2019t a new rule! He also banned Uggs on Oppenheimer. Emily Blunt told USA Today<\/a>, \u201cI would sometimes put on some Uggs and I\u2019d just get this withering look down to my feet\u2014it was like being in The Devil Wears Prada again. Just the look down to the shoes. And I\u2019d go, \u2018I know, I know. But I\u2019m just sitting on an apple box in the background today!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
