Many of the most beloved figures in indie are coming together for Heart of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young<\/a>,<\/em>\u00a0Vol. 2 \u2013 Out of the Blue<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Vol. 3 \u2013 Into the Black<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The announcement comes courtesy of\u00a0Cinema Music Group, Killphonic Records and City Slang, who will release both volumes on November 6th, 2026. It follows-up on Vol. 1<\/em>, which arrived in 2025.<\/p>\n

Notable artists set to contribute to the new volumes include Modest Mouse featuring Califone,\u00a0My Morning Jacket,\u00a0Lucinda Williams<\/a>,\u00a0Peter Frampton,\u00a0LP,\u00a0MJ Lenderman<\/a>,\u00a0Ben Gibbard,\u00a0and Kurt Vile and The Violators.<\/p>\n

To kick things off, King Princess has shared her cover of \u2018Helpless\u2019 to launch Vol. 3 \u2013 Into the Black<\/em>, and explained, \u201cIt felt kismet that they asked me to do \u2018Helpless\u2019. It\u2019s my mom and my favourite Neil Young song; I can hear her singing it in the car on our way upstate.\u201d<\/p>\n

King Princess added, \u201cWe tried to record it as simply and intimately as the Crosby Stills Nash and Young version. Brad (Oberhofer) played guitar and I played drums and keys. We did it as a one take, off click, and the rest we just built together as a two-man band. The only thing we changed was just making it longer. My only complaint about the original is that it\u2019s too short. I want more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Draco Rosa, who launches Vol. 2 \u2013 Out of the Blue<\/em>, has shared a new version of \u2018After the Gold Rush<\/a>\u2018, and stated, \u201cNeil Young\u2019s melodies resonate deeply. \u2018After the Gold Rush\u2019 is a pivotal song in my journey, reflecting the hope of finding a new home in the sun. It\u2019s a true honour to be included in this purposeful project.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new compilations are for a vital cause, too, raising money for The Bridge School, a nonprofit founded by Neil and Pegi Young to serve individuals with severe speech and physical impairments.<\/p>\n

Gabriela Berlanga, executive director of The Bridge School, added, \u00a0<\/em>\u201cWe\u2019re deeply grateful to the artists, supporters, and everyone who helped bring these albums to life. Every purchase helps ensure that individuals with communication and physical disabilities have access to communication, education, resources, and the opportunities they deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n
