Matt Damon<\/a> is opening up about his loved ones\u2019 giddy response to his casting in The Odyssey.<\/em><\/p>\nThe Odyssey <\/em>actor, 55, shed some light on his first glorious moments after securing his role as Odysseus in the film, which debuted in theaters July 17. Alongside his costar Tom Holland<\/a> (who plays his son Telemachus, on screen) during an appearance on 100 Questions with Tom Simons<\/em><\/a>, Damon revealed the first person he wanted to share the news with.<\/p>\n\u201cSo I immediately called my wife,\u201d Damon recalled, but Luciana Damon \u2014\u00a0a producer and his partner of over 20 years \u2014 was in a Zoom meeting and couldn\u2019t pick up the phone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI called Ben Affleck,\u201d Damon continued. When Simons asked how the Gone Girl <\/em>star reacted to the news, Damon added, \u201cOh, he freaked out. He knew that Christopher Nolan, the film\u2019s director, was one of Zendaya\u2019s favorites, and that she greatly admired a past project of his, Interstellar, <\/em>too.<\/p>\n\u201cI was just through the roof with excitement,\u201d Holland recalled. \u201cShe was the first person I told.\u201d<\/p>\n
Zendaya also earned her spot in The Odyssey, <\/em>stepping into the role of Athena in the screen adaptation of Homer\u2019s epic poem.
