Whoopi Goldberg<\/strong><\/a> is coming to Elliot Page<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s defense amid criticism over his casting in The Odyssey<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On the Tuesday, July 21, episode of The View<\/a>, Goldberg called out judgment over director Chistopher Nolan<\/strong>\u2019s casting choices, pointing out that some conservative critics condemned the movie before it even hit theaters.<\/p>\n

Some of The Odyssey\u2019s pre-release criticism stemmed from the casting of Page, a trans man, as Greek soldier Sinon, while Lupita Nyongo<\/strong>\u2019s casting as Helen of Troy<\/a> also drew ire from some on the political right. (Page previously starred in Nolan\u2019s 2010 epic Inception.)<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of conservatives who see this are going to feel the same way. That\u2019s OK. But I don\u2019t understand \u2026 why go see the movie?\u201d Goldberg said<\/a> on The View. \u201cIf you don\u2019t wanna see it, then don\u2019t go see it. Why do you care who\u2019s cast in it? I don\u2019t understand this idea that if we hate it, everybody must hate it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tChristopher Nolan\u2019s fantasy epic The Odyssey finally set sail with its world premiere and the first reactions are in. Critics are praising Nolan\u2019s \u201cmust-see\u201d movie, which had its first screening in London on Monday, July 6, and is set for release on July 17. The Odyssey, based on the Greek epic by poet Homer, stars [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Oscar winner reiterated, \u201cYou don\u2019t like Elliot Page? Don\u2019t go see the damn movie. Don\u2019t do it. We will be OK if you don\u2019t go see it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t get why you have to poop on everything you don\u2019t get,\u201d Goldberg said, adding that \u201cmovies are not real.\u201d<\/p>\n

Goldberg\u2019s cohost Alyssa Farrah Griffin<\/strong>, The View\u2019s resident Republican voice and a former member of President Donald Trump<\/strong>\u2019s administration, agreed with Goldberg.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a masterpiece. It is a phenomenal film,\u201d she said. \u201cThere\u2019s actually a real conservative message \u2026 it\u2019s about devotion to family, it\u2019s about faith, it\u2019s about upholding institutions, it\u2019s about how war is dangerous and has repercussions for all of us. The fact that conservatives can\u2019t take the win and just be like, \u2018Oh no, this is a really excellent film with a good message for families,\u2019 I\u2019ll never understand that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Academy Award nominee, 39, revealed via Instagram on Monday, June 29, that stepping into the squared circle with boxing trainer Nolan Hanson got him into peak physical condition, complete with six-pack abs. \u201cI\u2019ve been incredibly fortunate to train with @coachnol,\u201d Page wrote. \u201cThey\u2019re stuck on woke,\u201d cohost Joy Behar<\/strong> opined, to which Griffin responded, \u201cThere\u2019s nothing woke in this film.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Odyssey, which also stars Matt Damon<\/strong>, Anne Hathaway<\/strong>, Tom Holland<\/strong> and Zendaya<\/strong>, has earned over $300 million at the worldwide box office since its release just under a week ago.<\/p>\n
