R&B singer Nivea publicly revealed her recent leukemia diagnosis on an episode of the Atlanta-based performance and interview series \u201cCadillac Chronicles.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a conversation with host Brian Freeman, the 44-year-old Grammy-nominated artist said she was diagnosed earlier this year and is \u201cgrateful to God\u201d for her health as she undergoes treatment.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been going through treatment, and everything is going great so far, and I expect it to continue. Amen, amen, amen,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cCadillac Chronicles\u201d features Freeman riding in his 1974 Cadillac Eldorado with a musician, usually a hip-hop or R&B artist. In addition to discussing gratitude, Nivea also performed her hits from the car\u2019s passenger seat, including 2002\u2019s \u201cDon\u2019t Mess With My Man,\u201d which earned her a 2003 Grammy nomination.<\/p>\n
It seems the diagnosis hasn\u2019t slowed her down. The singer also revealed she\u2019s working on new music and going to school for audio engineering, which she said she\u2019s \u201calways wanted to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m doing all the things I want to do,\u201d she said. \u201cLoving on my children, and just being grateful and taking every opportunity that comes my way.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nivea \u2014 born Nivea B. Hamilton \u2014 was married to singer-songwriter and record producer The-Dream from 2004 to 2008, and shares three children with him: daughter Navy Talia, born in 2005, and twin sons London and Christian, born the following year.<\/p>\n
She also shares a son, Neal \u2014 who performs as Lil Novi \u2014 with rapper Lil Wayne. <\/p>\n
Leukemia is a cancer of the blood that begins in the bone marrow, which varies based on the type of blood cell affected and the stage of the disease. The \u201cComplicated\u201d singer did not reveal which type she was diagnosed with, but said she maintains a \u201cpositive\u201d outlook in all areas of life.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m very grateful for life. It\u2019s so cliche to say, you don\u2019t know the time nor the hour, but it\u2019s true, and it just helped me put a lot of things in perspective,\u201d she said. \u201cI live in gratitude religiously.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
