Trey Songz won’t serve any jail time after his arrest for allegedly punching a man at a Times Square nightclub last year.<\/p>\n
The singer, born Tremaine Neverson, was sentenced in a New York court on Wednesday to one year of conditional discharge for a non-criminal violation of second-degree harassment, Billboard reports.<\/p>\n
That means Songz won’t go to prison as long as he keeps his nose clean for the next year.<\/p>\n
Songz was arrested in December over two separate incidents in Manhattan. <\/p>\n
In the first, he was charged with harassment and misdemeanour attempted assault after prosecutors claimed he punched a man in the face at the Times Square club DRAMMA. <\/p>\n
In the second, he faced a felony count of criminal mischief for allegedly destroying more than $1500 (\u00a31126) worth of hookahs, DJ equipment and sofas at a midtown hookah lounge.<\/p>\n
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office later agreed to drop the felony count after his lawyer argued that other aggressors were responsible for the damage. <\/p>\n
As for the nightclub incident, the Say Aah singer initially pleaded guilty in April to assault and harassment. But after completing mental health treatment and abiding by court-ordered conditions, he was permitted to withdraw the misdemeanour plea and remain convicted only of harassment, a non-criminal violation.<\/p>\n
“We are very pleased with this resolution,” Songz’s lawyer told Billboard.<\/p>\n
Songz has faced numerous criminal probes over the years for physical violence and sexual assaults, which he denies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
