Charli XCX<\/a> has admitted that she almost called the very last song on her latest album, Music, Fashion, Film, <\/em>\u2018Brat\u2019.<\/p>\n

On July 24th, Charli XCX followed up the storming viral success of her 2024 album Brat <\/em>with Music, Fashion, Film,<\/em> packaged in a star-studded cover including John Cale, Marc Jacobs, and Martin Scorsese to embody her main concerns on the album.<\/p>\n

When unveiling the official tracklist, the Essex-born star revealed that the project would contain only one collaboration, with filmmaker David Cronenberg<\/a> on the last track of the album, \u2018No One Lasts Forever\u2019, which is officially the longest track she has ever released.<\/p>\n

The closer is a rumination on mortality, and contains stirring lyrics such as, \u201cThat\u2019s why I\u2019m not scared of anyone, because nothing\u2019s gonna last forever; but you need to discover that feeling of the crushing highs and lows of ego.\u201d<\/p>\n

Newly speaking on Tape Notes<\/a> <\/em>alongside her musical collaborators A G Cook and Finn Keane, Charli XCX reminisced on how the track came about.<\/p>\n

She shared, \u201cThis was a very in-the-moment track; like, we were all in Paris together, we went out, we had this night with this girl, and the song was written the next day.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, the \u2018Rock Music\u2019 singer mused, \u201cBut actually, before all of that, we had this conversation about wanting to do one very long song at the end of the album.\u201d<\/p>\n

She went on, \u201cAnd then there was a moment when we were like\u2026 \u2018Should we call it \u2018Brat\u2019?\u2019 Do you remember this?\u201d<\/p>\n

When Keane agreed, adding that the idea was \u201cso crazy,\u201d the star went on, \u201cWe were talking about how it should be the most electronic-leaning track and play a bit into that. Obviously, it ended up a little different.\u201d <\/p>\n

Far Out <\/em>gave the star\u2019s latest album a two-star review<\/a>, observing, \u201cThere\u2019s wry self-awareness, but that shouldn\u2019t be mistaken for substance. Just as the \u2018rock\u2019 amid the rave shouldn\u2019t be mistaken for reinvention. If you\u2019re a teenager discovering this aesthetic for the first time, then you might find it thrilling.\u201d<\/p>\n
