Janis Reeser<\/span> Downtown Salisbury will take on a music-focused atmosphere Sept. 18 when the city hosts an expanded edition of its monthly Third Friday event called Turn Up the Volume. The event is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m.<\/p>\n According to a community announcement, the celebration will serve as a preview of future music-centered downtown events as city officials continue evaluating plans for a new signature festival following the postponement of the Maryland Folk Festival.<\/p>\n The City of Salisbury said in the announcement that Turn Up the Volume will feature two stages with continuous performances, local and regional musicians, artists, vendors, food trucks, family activities and interactive music experiences throughout the downtown district.<\/p>\n Organizers are also encouraging participation through the Salisbury Street Performers initiative, inviting buskers to perform during the event.<\/p>\n The expanded Third Friday celebration is intended to showcase local and regional talent while drawing visitors downtown and supporting local businesses, according to the announcement.<\/p>\n The Maryland Folk Festival had been scheduled for September before being postponed while the city examines opportunities and develops plans for what officials describe as its next premier downtown event.<\/p>\n As those discussions continue, Turn Up the Volume is being positioned as a music-themed community gathering highlighting Salisbury’s arts and entertainment scene.<\/p>\n “While we continue planning for the future of a premier downtown festival, Turn Up the Volume gives us the opportunity to celebrate the incredible musicians, performers and artists who make our community so vibrant,” Scott Roberts, director of the Arts, Business and Culture Department, said in the announcement.<\/p>\n
