Michael Stipe<\/a> has unveiled a new song, \u201cHum Desiderata,\u201d exclusively on the online sound exhibition platform Joyfully Waiting<\/a>.<\/p>\n The \u201cDesiderata\u201d part of the musical work\u00a0is a spoken-word rendition of Max Ehrmann\u2019s poem from his installation at ICA Milan, featuring additional vocals from Athens, Georgia\u00a0artist Elizabeth Hatmaker.<\/p>\n Likely more interesting to Stipe fans, \u201cHum\u201d is an instrumental version of a song from his upcoming debut solo album. Co-produced by Stipe and Andy LeMaster, the track is buoyed by dynamic, full strings.<\/p>\n Related Video<\/p>\n Back in April, the R.E.M. singer spoke about his first solo project during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert<\/em><\/a>, where he also debuted a new song, \u201cThe Rest of Ever.\u201d\u00a0At the time, Stipe said he was writing the \u201cfinal lyrics\u201d for the album, announcing that it was coming out at the end of the year. He also described one of the songs as \u201cthe sound of a tree hearing itself for the first time through MIDI.\u201d<\/p>\n Earlier this year, Stipe teamed up with producer Andrew Watt, Josh Klinghoffer (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam), and Travis Barker for \u201cI Played the Fool,\u201d<\/a> the theme to the HBO series\u00a0Rooster<\/em><\/a>, starring Steve Carell. He later performed\u00a0the track on Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em><\/a>, alongside\u00a0Watt, Klinghoffer, Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Queens of the Stone Age\u2019s Troy Van Leeuwen, and Chris Chaney (AC\/DC, ex-Jane\u2019s Addiction).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
