What does Under the Big Sky mean to you?<\/strong><br \/>It\u2019s my favorite one we\u2019ve ever played, man. I love Montana. The setting is obviously incredible. And they make it so localized. It\u2019s not just another taco bar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<strong>Did the response then make you think, \u201cOK, something\u2019s going on\u201d with your career?<\/strong><br \/>Yeah. It was, \u201cOh, dang. There\u2019s actually people here that are excited to see me and they\u2019re going to come out here in the heat of the day.\u201d This was one of the first times I felt that. This place is special on multiple levels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<strong>Tell us about the new song \u201cGood Girls &amp; Cowgirls.\u201d<br \/><\/strong>It\u2019s a goofy, fun song, the dichotomy between what you would call a \u201cgood girl\u201d and a little more the wild side of women. I think folks will enjoy it. The plan is for it to be on the new record. That\u2019s next spring. We don\u2019t have the date nailed out. I\u2019m having a ball. I\u2019m very thankful for everything that\u2019s happened to me and just enjoying it as much as I can, working my ass off to try and make it keep going and keep climbing. Everything\u2019s gravy from here on out. I\u2019ve done a lot more than I ever could have hoped or dreamed to do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<strong>You<\/strong> <strong>started out playing bluegrass, which continues to grow in popularity. What is it about that music that is connecting with so many people?<br \/><\/strong>That\u2019s interesting. From my perspective, it\u2019s pretty parallel to the reason that my music is as popular as it is right now. We had a long time of, at least in the country world\u2026 everything is really perfect and everything\u2019s tuned. Everything\u2019s pocketed just right. I think some of the soul got left behind in that. I think a lot of people finally just got to a point where it\u2019s, \u201cAll right, we\u2019re looking for something a little more raw and real again.\u201d And so, bluegrass is only that. You can\u2019t get past that. You better be a badass on your instrument and a badass singer. And that\u2019s all you\u2019ve got to show people. I think it\u2019s parallel with a lot of the country stuff. You\u2019re trying to just play good music and put your heart and soul into it. People enjoy that. And that\u2019s what bluegrass has always been to me. But then, a guy like Billy [Strings] comes along, and it\u2019s hard to ever pinpoint something like that. I mean, he\u2019s just a phenomenon on his own. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<strong>How much does your bluegrass background play into not only your musicality in the country world, but how you approach songs and arrangements?<\/strong><br \/>It\u2019s woven into who I am, what I am, what I do, from the beginning of writing a song. I can\u2019t help but kind of put a little of that \u201chigh, lonesome sound\u201d into a lot of the melodies that I write, which I think is fun. It sets me apart from a lot of other stuff that might sound [like] a bunch of the Nineties stuff. I get thrown in that box a lot, \u201cbringing back Nineties country,\u201d which I don\u2019t know, I don\u2019t feel that way. I\u2019m just doing me, and it is sonically reminiscent, for sure.
