Spaceballs: The New One <\/em>is in theaters April 23, 2027<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nMel Brooks<\/a> made his first-ever San Diego Comic-Con appearance (sort of) at 100!<\/p>\nBrooks, who reached centenarian status when he celebrated his birthday<\/a> on June 28, appeared in video footage during Spaceballs: The New One<\/a><\/em>\u2018s Comic-Con presentation while actors Josh Gad<\/a>, Rick Moranis<\/a>, Lewis Pullman<\/a>, Daphne Zuniga<\/a> and Keke Palmer<\/a> presented new footage from the movie and discussed the sequel to Brooks\u2019 1987 Star Wars <\/em>spoof.<\/p>\nThe presentation in San Diego Comic-Con\u2019s Hall H kicked off with a video featuring Brooks, who had plenty of jokes about not appearing in person.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve done a lot of things in my career, but not Comic-Con. Throughout the panel, Gad, 45, Moranis, 73, and the film\u2019s cast members spoke with humorous reverence about working with Brooks on the project.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know what gave me the balls to do this, but I called up Mel Brooks and his producing partner, Kevin Salter, who\u2019s in the audience, and I did the most intense 40-minute pitch of this movie, and he\u2019s just silently listening,\u201d Gad said during the panel. \u201cThis is in 2022. At the end of it, he goes, \u2018Josh, it sounds like you really got your finger on the pulse. I don\u2019t know half of what you\u2019re talking about, but I really like it.\u2019 I was mentioning The Force Awakens<\/a><\/em> and Kylo Ren<\/a> and he\u2019s like, \u2018What the hell is all that?\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\nSpaceballs<\/em> is primarily a parody of the original Star Wars<\/em> trilogy, as well as other popular science fiction movies from the late 20th century. Gad first announced that he was working on a sequel with Brooks<\/a> in 2024. In June 2025, Amazon MGM Studios announced that Brooks would reprise his role as Yogurt<\/a>, the gold-skinned parody of the Star Wars<\/em> character Yoda. Brooks also portrayed the Emperor Palpatine<\/a>-inspired character President Skroob in the original movie.<\/p>\nAmazon MGM Studios also announced<\/a> that Moranis would reprise his role as the Darth Vader parody Dark Helmet in September 2025. Bill Pullman<\/a>, who played the Han Solo\/Luke Skywalker parody character Lone Starr in the original movie, will also reprise his role alongside his son Lewis Pullman<\/a>, as well as Zuniga\u2019s Princess Vespa and George Wyner\u2019s Colonel Sandurz. Because after all these years, I found the money,\u201d Brooks said in the video, as a camera panned to a duffel bag full of cash. \u201cThere it is, the money. It was in the basement. But everywhere I go, people say \u2018Mel! Mel! When are you going to make the new Spaceballs<\/em>? When are you going to make the new one?\u2019 Well, we did it, and the title is: Spaceballs: The New One<\/em>. It\u2019s just like the old one, but it\u2019s newer.
