Kansas City Royals star Salvador Perez rewrote the club record books<\/a> with his 318th career home run on Saturday.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n It was a record that had been held by Hall of Fame third baseman George Brett for over four decades.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Brett was not present at Comerica Park on Saturday. He was in Cooperstown, New York, as the National Baseball Hall of Fame prepares to induct the 2026 class<\/a> \u2014 which includes former Royals star Carlos Beltran.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Perez is ticketed for the Hall of Fame in the future. Until then, he is piloting the Royals just as Brett did for many seasons.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And it\u2019s why Brett shared some encouraging words in a special video shared by the Royals on their social media accounts.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cSalvy, they say records are meant to be broken, and you\u2019re proof of that,\u201d Brett said in the pre-recorded video. \u201cHell, you might just break all of mine. Three-hundred and eighteen home runs, all while wearing Royal blue. You know, we played in different eras, but I think we got a lot in common.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Brett is an icon in Kansas City. He is beloved just as is Perez around many households, and now they each have a piece of history to celebrate.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Perez said Brett called him from Cooperstown on Saturday. They shared a quick conversation and Perez thanked him for the video message<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cHe means a lot, you know, for the organization and for the city, for us, and for me,\u201d Perez said of Brett. \u201cI learned a lot of things from George.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Perez is now the sixth player to hold the Royals home-run record. He also is the third on the list of active players for home runs with the same team \u2014 trailing Mike Trout (422 with the Los Angeles Angels) and Aaron Judge (385 with the New York Yankees).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
