Season 1 ended with the fate of Quinn (Kelly) and Staten (Duhamel) unclear after weeks of tension, and the new installment picks up six months later as Quinn returns to the small Texas town after a stint in New York City.<\/p>\n
She doesn\u2019t return alone. Oliver (Ben Robson), whom she met and worked with at the New York Philharmonic during her time away, followed her back to Texas and proposed, leaving Quinn torn between her first love and her new life all season long.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis wasn\u2019t meant to be a triangle,\u201d Kelly, 46, tells PEOPLE. \u201cShe really wanted to move on. She was very frustrated at the end of season 1<\/a>, and so she went to New York to fulfill her purpose and her dream to play with the New York Phil, and she\u2019s living in New York and having a good time. Returning to Ransom to find \u201cthis very new, charming, funny, silly version of Staten, who\u2019s telling her everything she\u2019s ever wanted to hear\u201d leaves Quinn confused, Kelly says.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis other guy\u2019s perfect in every way. He\u2019s saying and doing all the things she\u2019s ever wanted \u2014 but from someone else.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSo then, when Staten\u2019s making her laugh again, Quinn and all of us watching are realizing, \u2018Oh, this is why she loves him so much. This is why they\u2019re supposed to be together. Look how much he makes her laugh.\u2019 You really forget how important that is in a relationship,\u201d Kelly continues. \u201cI think it\u2019s everything: Do you make each other laugh?\u201d<\/p>\n
It isn\u2019t until the final episode of the season that Quinn and Staten finally decide to give their relationship another try \u2014\u00a0with the help of Quinn\u2019s mom, Claire (Patricia Clarkson<\/a>).<\/p>\n\u201cWe were really ready,\u201d Duhamel, 53, tells PEOPLE of the characters\u2019 long-held tension finally giving out. \u201cThe audience probably is [too].
